Are these brake pads and rotors ok to use?

I purchased a set of pads and rotors and UPS damaged them during transport because everything was packaged together in one box and weighing over 100lbs. Needless to say, I am curious if these pads and rotor are ok to use on my NSX if I plan on doing a couple of track events per year? I usually run with the advanced group.

Oh by the way, the brake pad is a Cobalt Friction prototype race pad which was used for one track event, as was this front rotor.

The rotors could possibly be resurfaced, it's hard to get a feel for the depth of the damage; the pads probably won't be a concern for falling apart, but the chunks will translate into reduced contact area with the rotor - there is a great deal of pad material, so you could 'resurface' the pads as well, if this difference in pad surface were a concern for you - they don't seem like they have an issue, unless the backing, etc. are also damaged.

I would have the rotors machined, but, from what I can see here, assuming the rotor damage can be machined away, they should be fine to install on the car.

Re: Probably

I've had new pads look worse than that after one session. Ran 'em several more races with no problems.

I'm assuming the rotors are scratched, not cracked from being dropped? If so, I wouldn't worry about them. JMHO

Run them!

I agree with Ted, turn the rotors if there are deep gouges, and run the pads.

Sidney, bedding in these specific race pads, are akin to having the rotors turned on a lathe. As Dave & Ted mentioned, do not mind small shipping surface scratches. About 10 miles from the shop to the track turns my black wheel white from all the metal shavings coming off the rotor.

To put it into perspective, those specific race pads are equally as aggressive as Andie's XTR in terms of wear and torque; designed to deliver 'unparalleled decelerations rates '. Put them on, bed them in, and certainly don't use them with an expensive blingy wheel. I think you'll be very happy with this setup at your next track day. If you have any problems or questions simply drop me an e-mail or PM and I will certainly help you in anyway that I can.

Thank you all for your input. This makes me feel alot more comfortable with putting these on. See you at the track.

I can't say for sure as I cant see the details of the rotor itself very clearly, but as long as there arent alrge gouges in the rotor it should be fine. the pads look like they've been banged up a bit but they should work just fine as well.
