Anyone pick up an XBox360?

I was thiking about taking a pre order but they wanted 50 bux and they said it would be 500 bux, which at the time I did not have so I didnt get it and I am happy I didn't becuase: A: I want an ATV. B:There could be some bigs with it. and C: I rather wait till it drops in price.

and now you can't get them ANYWHERE!

Yeah, busy with A-holes who want to scam the hell out of people with the 360. I have heard cases when the Xbox came out, that people would take the boxes, and put rocks in them and ship them, and when the people got the "Xbox" box, they found out they got F-ed over.

I already had one...navagating the all the functions is kinda complicated IMO but then agian Im just an auto mechanic that hates computers

I'm not going to be picking up an Xbox360...at least not before PS3 comes out. Someone in my office picked one up (and with roughly a dozen games) today. Nothing much to say other than from the games I've seen (PGR3, Condemned, Perfect Dark, Kameo, Madden, NFS), NFS: Most Wanted is the best looking, but it suffers from serious frame hitches especially at 720p (still has hitches in 480p, but not nearly as bad). Madden didn't look THAT much different than its current gen offerings, just a bit sharper due to 720p and with 3D peeps in the stands (and still looked way too washed out for my taste).

I was quite surprised that PGR3 did NOT look very good. Cars and environments sure are shiny...but too much so.

No reason to rush.

Its kinda crappy that it wont play old games...and mine has wires hanging out of the side ....beta testing was cool though.

I thought I heard it would play all the old games and new?
No big deal to me, I don't plan on buying one. I almost never use my PS2 as it is.

i will wait till ps3 comes out.

then i will wait till ps2 price drops drastically.

i will buy an xbox360 at retail early in the year.

I will sell xbox360 for double retail.

I will wait till stores have xbox360 in stock.

then I will buy it and own it for free (net net).

PARIS HILTON picked up an XBOX360 - as pictured HERE. (i need a vomit smiley about now :p )

I'm getting one for free since I was part of the bring-up team hehe :D

BTW, many older games will work, you just need to download the patch. The reason is that there are major changes in the underlying hardware so direct backwards compatibility had to be sacrificed (eg. Intel to PowerPC, nVidia to ATI, etc).

Ridge Racer 6 joined our in office collection today and, once again, I'm throughly unimpressed. Sure it ran in 720p at 60fps, but I'd rather play the game on my PSP...and the graphics didn't look THAT much different.

Akira, they really rushed this platform to market so developers haven't had a chance to create original content designed specifically to the strengths of the platform. This has happened in the past with other consoles as well, where the really good games that showed off the capabilities did not come out for a few months after release. In fact, the stuff that pushes the envelope usually does not come out for 2-3 years as developers figure out all the nuances and tricks of the underlying architecture.

This holds true even more so on this upcoming generation of consoles with multi-threaded CPU's and highly complex GPU's. I think you'll see this to an even greater extent on PS3 where a) developers were thrust on a redefined graphics architecture very late in the game and b) are completely unfamiliar with the type of programming necessary to take full advantage of the cell SIMD cores and associated DMA mechanism. But once they do have that mastered, I think you'll see a big jump in what the PS3 will be capable of.

In short, I think you'll have to wait a few months before the XBox360 will really start to shine with some kick-ass original content. The current titles are barely scratching the surface of whats possible with this hardware.

I got mine delivered today. I haven't decided if I am gonna sell it or not. Project Gotham Racing 3 and Need for Speed keeps talking to me, telling me to go ahead and open it. But if I wait a couple of weeks, I might be able to get some $$ to pay for all my mods. What to do, What to do?
