There has been a few threads on this. Some have been able to pry them off using a fork or small pry tool. The issue is, in some cases, the motor/actuator gets damaged when you pry on them. There is also the question of calibration when new needles are reinstalled.
If you are gonna try this practice on a spare junk cluster from a civic you can grab from a wrecker for cheap. More often than not this will not go well because those damn needles are on there tight.
