Hi,

I was wondering if your NSX has over 100k miles, and is regularly driven at the track? If so, did you run into any issues?

Thanks so much.

I had over 100k when I took my car to the track a few years ago. The only thing you really have to worry about is the coolant hoses bursting. As long as your car is prepped, i.e. good pads, good tires, fresh brake fluid, no mechanical issues you should be fine. Took mine to the track 3 times while over 100k and no issues. I stopped tracking for other reasons, but the car has not developed any other issues that I can tie back to the track. My stereo amplifier just went out but I don't think that is because of the track time.:D

Have fun, but make sure you have a good running car before you go and that you take the time to prep your car for what will likely be the hardest 2 hours of your car's life.

Jeff

Hi, Jeff,

Could you please elaborate what you meant by this?
Thanks for your time.

I think he's talking about one the main two coolant hoses connecting the rad to the engine. They have a history of letting go at the most inopportune times. Those two take a lot of heat abuse from the engine. Do a forum search - you'll find a bunch of info.

I think this is a legitimate concern for any NSX, even one that never sees a racetrack.

The cooling system hoses are made of rubber, and after a number of years, they should be replaced. Unfortunately, their replacement is not included in Honda's recommended maintenance schedule. I think it's a good idea to replace the cooling system hoses at the same time as the timing belt and water pump (recommended for every 90K miles or 6 years, whichever comes first, on the '91-96, and 105K/7 on the '97-04). It's an appropriate interval, and will save a slight amount of work (including replacing the coolant) by combining the services.

TigerNSX,

Sorry for the late reply. Others have posted and have given great info. The only other tidbit I can add is that my brother’s coolant hose burst at the track.

A few reasons it is worse at the track than on the street:

Tracks usually are not near anything, so finding parts will be very difficult.
At the track you are probably closer to your car's limits. If your hose breaks in a turn the likelihood of loosing traction is high. Luckily my brothers burst on a straight.

Ken is right though, I have hear of others who have had their hoses burst on the street, and the car was not under duress so the hose issue is not necessarily directly related to the amount of stress on the engine. However I am sure that it cannot help.

Good luck, and have fun.

Thanks so much for your help, Jeff and others.

I believe Doug H.'s NSX has over 27,000 actual track miles IIRC. Maybe he or somebody can verify it.
