anti submarining

I purchased a harness bar and 2 sets of Simpson 5-point harnesses from a former track junky/friend turned father of twins.

Anyways, I can not figure out how you can install the harnesses without being in a situation that you would be submarining in the event of a sudden stop or accident..

I will be purchasing sparco seats in the spring but I was wondering if anyone has got it to work with the stock OEM seats.

How did this guy do it???

I recently had my OEM seats modified slightly with a slot where the rear crease in the seat cushion is located. You cannot even tell the slot is there when the 5th point is out. A point for mounting was installed under the seat. It works great and looks good doing it.

As long as you found a decent anchor under the seat, it looks great. For the track, you could add a single shoulder pad to your sub belt for comfort.

I am in the process of custom installing my race seat from my Integra into the NSX. Hopefully it fits ok!!!! I have a 5 pt. Simpson cam-lock belt on it, and a Greddy 4 pt. for the pass side.

FYI if you plan on doing any drag events(Most road courses don't have this rule), most dragstrips are scared of "Simpson" belts (after Dale E.'s death) so they look at the mfg date, and will not let you run if over a certain age. I think it is 2 years. I had a 3 yr old belt, and they said I had to use my factory. (like I trust my factory more than my Simpson!!!! NOT)
Just a reminder if you guys run Simpson, check with the strip for their rules.

the SCCA is now studying the issue of belt changes over time, and are close to recommending changing every 2-3 years due to degredation of the webbing material.

I just got an email from NASA with an update for their 2004 rules. As of 2004, NASA will not allow any SFI rated belt with a date more than two years old. Should make the rewebbing services very profitable.

BMWCCA Racing allows belts up to five years old. I just replaced my drivers belt. Rewebbing cost as much as new harnesses, so I think this will increase the new harness business and drive down the price on used "out-of-date" belts on the open market.

Re-webbing

FWIW, I've seen posts on other forums that:

1) the 2 year requirement is a done deal and
2) Simpson, at least, no longer offers re-webbing. But,
3) interestingly enough, an FIA tag is worth 5 years in SCCA.

Anybody know a plausible argument for that?

SFI = 2 years, FIA = 5 years

Just talked to the chief scrutineer for the San Fran region of SCCA. He confirmed the belt tag limitations noted above have been published in this year's GCR. He indicated no one has been able to answer the question about why the two agencies are different. Some bureaucratic political type BS. So, if you're racing, go with FIA tagged belts.
