I am not so sure about this, and if Honda abandon the NSX line it will be a huge mistake IMO. Every car companies are looking madly to have an icon, a legendary model
( even by adapting and reintroducing old ones
like the Ford GT 40... ). When you have one you stick with it.
Discontinuing the NSX line will make more unhappy people than happy ones. The death of something wonderful and different in the automotive world...especially in the exotic supercar market...

When Honda reached their decision to build the first one they envisioned annual sales of 3-5000 units. The reality in 2002 is annual NSX sales are more like 500 units.
IMO with some
at least 400hp
or
near 4s 0-60 AND more than 300 km/h ( 188 mph ) top speed
NSX could sell as much as Vipers and Ferraris
and if they want to be sure to sell more than 2000 units per year they only have to bring a more than 500hp @ more than 320 km/h ( 200 mph )top speed NSX.
Think about it, would you run to buy such an NSX at 90 000$ ? I mean an NSX, not a Corvette nor a Viper, but a reliable, gorgeous, light, nimble and superhandling NSX...

There is no way they will invest the money required for a new car... .
Honda do not have to invest as much money as they did for the first gen NSX because they do not start from a blank sheet of paper, they can benefit from the existing first generation since we are dealing with evolutions and around the NSX concept, not to forget about the S2K technology...

Enjoy your NSX now because it's a classic and will never be replaced. I guarantee it.
I understand why you think like that and I truly hope that future will prove you were wrong. But don't be afraid I enjoy really much my NSX.
2003 should show us some new NSX prototype...
Personnally I think that Honda will come up with a super 2nd gen NSX and will surprise everybody again. Why? Because they never ended to upgrade it instead of simply stoping its production.
This sounds like they are only waiting for the good timing.
When?
To not be the first to break the Japan gentlemen agreement?
To be again on top in F1?
????
We'll see...
