Lately there's been a lot of discussion about the replacement of the timing belt and water pump on the early NSXs.

It's worth noting that there's another service that's specified for every 10 years, which means that it's now due for the '91 and '92 NSXs out there. This is the inspection of the airbag system, or SRS. It consists of an inspection of the connectors and sensors, and checking for any codes.

I had this done as part of my annual spring maintenance at my dealer this year. I was charged one half hour of labor for it. Everything checked out fine.

I was doing all kinds of maintenance and saw this too.

Was wondering if one can check them themselves? What is the proceedure? I didn't see how to check it in my shop manual and may have just missed it.

I don't know - I'm sure one of our techies can help - but I do know that airbags are hazardous, so make absolute sure you know what you're doing.

At one of our club meetings at Acura of Brookfield, they demonstrated (outdoors) the detonation of an air bag that had been removed from a car. It was quite an explosion.

The service manual is funny. The first page of the body section says that the instructions for servicing the SRS are in the service manual... but I looked all over it and, like you, didn't see it anywhere.

The inspection consists of scanning for codes and a visual inspection of wires and particularly connectors.

Hi Lud,

Does the scanning for codes mean shorting out the connector in the passenger footwell - i.e. error codes?
