My car recently encounter a weird a/c problem, the a/c will just not working occasionally...

the first time was like 3 months ago, I was very low on gas, and my wife was sweating, so I was like lets have some cold air since gas station is only a mile away... it doesn't turn on, but after the refueling at gas station, it works fine... so I was like, wow, nsx is so advance it actually didn't turn on a/c when it's low on gas!! silly me..:o

second time (last week) was on my way to work during a real heavy rain storm, wanted to turn on a/c to dry up the windshield... found out that it just quit working... I try it later at work, a/c blows real cold..

Just happened last night, a/c quit on me again, but of course, it work perfectly after I shut down the car for awhile...

These are the only 3 times the a/c quit of my last year ownership.
I would like to see if anyone encounter this problem before? or is it a tell tale sign of something more serious(damage to my wallet...)

Are you saying that the unit stops blowing cold air OR the climate control completely shuts itself down?

If it's shutting off completely, my first guess would be the climate control board is going bad. The board going bad can give you the funky on/off symptoms, fan blowing only on high setting, etc.

It's not that hard to remove yourself and send the board to a good electronics shop for repair.

I've been having the SAME problems! Lucky for me, Ojas kindly mailed me a spare unit that would ONLY blow on HIGH. I installed it, replacing my unit and now I have air on HIGH! :D So obviously my board is bad and it's being sent for repairs.

I'm interested to know what you find out about our Jekyll and Hyde A/C as mine is behaving the same way. Start the car and it's ice cold - sometimes stays that way, sometimes not. A couple weeks ago the humidity was relatively high and it suddenly stopped working and the windows fogged up. The gentleman that inspected my car last month (pre-purchase inspection) said the A/C was working great and there was no leakage. I'm a new NSX owner so I am wondering if there is some secret that I'm unaware of. I rarely use the Auto mode and set the A/C to 65, in circulation mode (I just learned that the word 'recirculation' does not exist). That has helped somewhat but I don't think it is the antidote.
