You are mistaken. That NSX isn't a pacecar. It's a racecar and it won pole position. 
What exactly is the function of a pace car?

Just curious, why didn't they use a Ferrari to pace an all-Ferrari race?
Not really sure, but if it was the same type car, at race speeds things can kind of blend together. You wouldn't want a guy under yellow, racing the pace car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, thanks for the clarification. I thought they didn't want a Ferrari pace car because they thought it would break down in the middle of the track

Remember the pouring rain Lime Rock event 2 or 3 years ago where the Dodge Viper actually spun into a ditch as a pace car? That was a classic as well.
