I knew the AC didn't work when I bought the car, and now I am fairly sure I have found the problem:

The story, for those interested, is that the previous owner forgot to set the parking brake in a steep lot and the car rolled at "a slow walking speed" into a parking curb that was held in place by a piece re-bar rod of unfortunate length. That explained the dent in the crossmember, the shoddily painted bumper cover, and this destroyed line...and a small sum negotiated off the purchase price of course

Any advice on where to get a replacement. Obviously a dealership could get one, but I'm pretty sure they'd also bend me over the counter... Not sure if they make generic AC lines that might fit, hence the question.

Hard to tell from your picture which line it is.
Is it #8 in this picture(list $107.23) or is it the line off the condenser itself?

I want you to know that if the system has been open a long time there may be other issues as well. You may replace this, recharge and in a short time experience other problems.

Since the car is "shortened" enough to kink this line and obviously it has not been repaired and restored to it's proper dimensions, a new, correct line, of the full length may not fit.

it's #9 from that diagram.

The car hasn't been "shortened" or in this case narrowed any, from my interpretation, the line actually came into direct contact with the prodruding re-bar which resulted in a dent in the line.

it looks like there is a pin-hole, but not much more. I think the only way to ascertain if this is the only problem or not will be to fix it, since it definately is a[/a] problem and then charge it and see what gives.

I will probably go ahead and convert the car to R134 now as well to make any trial-and-error a little cheaper.
