Air Intake Question

Tell me if I'm correct:

The temperature of the air going into the engine is inversely proportional to the power produced by the engine. In other words, the colder the air that goes into the engine, the more power.
In that case, don't the aftermarket intakes that attach onto the throttle body (K&N, Apexi, HKS, etc.) just suck in hot ass air inside the engine bay (and SOME cold air from the side vent) and make the engine lose power? Because the stock intake is a box with direct flow from the side vent (and not exposed to the hot air in the engine), isn't it better in terms of performance?

Yes, cooler air is better but less restriction in the intake helps too. Bigger filter with bigger pipes reduce restriction and if you can get cooler air all the better. The amount of power you can gain from cold air and/or a less restrictive intake is measurable but small, less than 1%. I think the best reason to put on a different intake on an X is to increase that wonderful intake sound the X makes :D :D :D

Yes,
We all know that the intake does not put noticeable HP in NSX but we put it for pure sound purposes. That's why I was willing to pay $$$ plus charged extra fee for using paypall & to ship it express (totaling ~$850 for GruppeM intake) --> :D :D :D

What kind of sound does GrouppeM intake make? I have never heard of it in person. Could you please describe the sound if you don't mind?

I'll let the other guys describe the GruppeM intake:

you can find more info on the sound here:

"It sounds fantastic. I ran Laguna Seca once with a stock exhaust, and gruppeM intake. the sound it makes is comparable to a F355 but only not as loud because it's muffled by the engine bay. It is very loud when you get on the throttle!"--maomaonsx

"It uses a HUGE K&N filter that looks like a turbine fan, which makes a turbine sound when you accelerate :D "--ZRO260B4U

"If money isn't an issue, and what you want is an awesome intake sound, then get the GruppeM. I think most would agree(at least those who like louder intake sounds) that the GruppeM is the best sounding intake."---Veleno

Thanks so much for your help, Insx!!

For me, the DaliRacing cf air intake with fender scoop, airbox and intake funnel is the best sounding and powerfull intake.
The japanese guys tested that system at the NSX-R and they installed that at the racing car.

Even if true, the CFM requirements of a racing engine are greater than those of a nearly stock NSX so there is no reason to believe that using the same intake will be of any benefit without a highly modified engine. All tests I've seen to-date suggest that Honda provided a perfectly adequate intake and filter for the NSX. Since it is the simplest of all things to do right, wouldn't they have been colossal idiots to do otherwise on a car where they spent massive sums on performance R&D?

If you like the way they sound or look that's fine, but if what you are looking for is bang for the buck performance mods then save your money unless you also have more mods than headers and exhaust.
