Accidently down shift to 2nd going 110 mph, need advice

Gerry Johnson contact me from Modesto, CA. He said he will do the leakdown test , but he said the vehicle should be fine.

W,

Still sounds like a bent valve that perhaps straightened itself out.

The general principal is that if you make the "money shift" as Ken called it, you shut off your engine and call it a week until you can pull the heads and sort things out.

Agreed. I did not mean to imply that he should ignore everyone's advice. I too think he should take his car to an experienced mechanic (preferably NSX trained) for expert diagnosis.

That's OK...

Only the very best advice was ever meant to be ignored.

No, do not get me wrong, I would never ignore you guys advise, this is excellent, and I really appreciate it, but I guess I just went ahead and checked out what I could, and with the leak check, we should be good to go. I hate to see my baby sit

Clean out carbon…hmmmm. Did the shop give you your old plugs back? How do they look? Why did they have to clean out carbon? How much carbon? Were there one or two cylinders that had more carbon than the others? When I bent my exhaust valves there was an excess of carbon buildup in that cylinder.

At this point I’m a little skeptical. If your engine still sounds like it’s misfiring then it still is, and I’d take it to a shop that specializes in the NSX to get the real story.

Maybe it is only a loose exhaust or something like that and that’s a good thing but I’d have it checked out just for piece of mind.

Good luck,
DanO

... For those reading this thread, here is a little bit of background information as I understand it (De please correct me if I make an error). The 3rd to 2nd mis-shift happened Saturday night. On Sunday a few of the SD NSXer's went for cruise. De ran his car HARD for over 200 miles in the desert heat. Halfway through the drive, we pulled over to inspect the engine and there was this intermittent noise on the right side of the engine and a sort of sputtering noise coming from the exhaust...

Well, as often happens, the story is a bit different than the boiled-down version. This leaves some doubt in my mind that you bent the valves on the missed shift. Maybe yes, maybe no, but you already know what needs to be done next to make sure.
