A/C musty smell

When I turn on the A/C of my '93 manual NSX (which I recently purchased), there is a distinct musty smell. Also, the water that leaks from the car (which I've read in this forum is due to condensation from the A/C) has the same smell. Has anyone encountered this, or have any idea how to remove the smell? Or is this just part of life with a 9 year old car? Mileage around 22K.

I make it a point to turn off the A/C about a mile prior to my destination and turn the climate contol to "fresh" and run the fan on mid speed. I never get a musty smell inside the car using this method.

The musty smell you're getting results from abruptly turning off your a/c. When you do this, cold air that is still trapped in the vents condensate and just sits there. By the time you return to your car and turn it back on, that's the smell you get blowing right at you. That goes with ANY car with a/c.

Either do the tip mentioned above, or when you get to your destination, take a few seconds to run the fan and blow regular air through the vents before your kill the engine.

The tips above are good tips for preventing the mold that causes the musty smell.

To get rid of the smell once you have it, you'll need to clean the air intake and the evaporator using the spray that Honda (and other manufacturers) make. For more information, go to the "Climate Control" section of the FAQ here and scroll down to where it says, "Bad Odor From The Climate Control System?".

Thanks, I should have checked the FAQ more carefully before posting (in typical newby fashion).

btw, you guys already seem way more knowledgeable/helpful than people in the ClubRSX forum (my previous car).

Some of us have owned our NSX twelve times as long as anyone has owned an RSX.

Or you can do it for free by running the fan at full blast everytime you drive for one to 3 days. (maybe more, maybe less). It stinks really bad but IT WILL eventually go away. Be sure to leave the vents at fresh (no recirculate) and it will clear up.
