The clutch (if propably working) is capable of stalling the engine at adle when the compressor is somehow stuck.
I think the problem lies in the adjustment to the clutch, when installing,(especially new one) the gap should be 0,5 mm (PLease check this in the service manual).
If this gap is to small it might be slipping (and overheating) when clutch is disengaged or if gap is to big it might be slipping at high revs and clutch engaged.
The overheating will burn the electric coil and or ruin the bearing....
