Hi everyone. I am new to the forum. Let's just say that I share everyone's passion for the nsx and now that I just graduated pharmacy school, I now have the mean$ to purchase one.

Anyways, I was searching autotrader as I have done everyday for the past few months and stumbled upon a listing for a 1997 nsx with 817 miles for $43k as the topic suggests. I e-mailed the owner and he said he needed quick cash to make a real estate investment.

Figuring that you guys are very helpful and informative about these things, i wonder what your opinions are.

Most likely I will not purchase this car(I prefer black, live 2000 miles away, dad won't loan me the money yet, just started working) But if it is true and the car is clean, I hope that some lucky Nsx enthusiast's dream comes true instead of some dealer picking it up and making a hefty profit.

Well, just wanted to say hello to you guys and hopefully I will be crusing in an nsx soon (target 6 months)
----Ly

Btw: I have a 99 Es300 and compared to my old 95 accord V6, its engine is less smooth in my opinion. That only makes me wonder what the nsx engine is like. I am drooling already.

Are you sure the car had only 817 miles? When searching on Autotrader, at the bottom of each listing it reports the distance from your zip code, like this:

817 miles from 94065

A link to the car might be helpful...

Also, get the VIN and perhaps someone with an open Carfax account can check it out.

Agreed get the vin number so you can run a carfax to make sure it's

I called, and the car is in Bakerfield being sold by the "friend of a car wholesaler." He says that it has a battery acid-damaged front bumper that needs painting. It has black interior.

Yes, it could be... just like all those urban legends about the Porsche that the divorcing wife sold for $5K, etc... but it's not likely. Whenever you hear of a car selling for $10-20K less than its market value, you have to wonder what's going on.

I actually know the guy who bought it, and some of the prior owners. It happens...

The particular BLUE 97 I speak of has since been sold (for about $43-45K) and it definitely has more miles than this one.

Yeah I know of a bunch of blue '97 NSXs that sold cheap too. There was always a reason. They were sold cheap, but not below their market value given their condition / history. I will bet you a drink that this story is no different. Caveat emptor.

Viper Driver,
Can you help us with this vin#.

Thanks

Its a lease veichle. Can you sell a lease veichle? What is this guy try to pull????

Are you sure it is a lease? Then why is there only 817 miles? Doesn't add up. This is also a coupe and not a T. Does that change the value of the car? I think that there were more T than coupes in '97 can someone comfirm that?

Though I don't know anything regarding this car or it's mileage(true or not), I do know that it is possible for an NSX, any year, to have very low mileage as the one mentioned above.

My car is proof, but I doubt there are many NSXs like this.

Always good to be safe though, so make sure you check it out!

This car is an NSX-T, not a coupe. Look at the title of the ad and it says "NSX T Coupe" - meaning NSX-T.

Only one blue 1997 NSX coupe was sold in the United States, and this is not it. (I know the car and the owner, R.W. He puts plenty of track miles on it and it's not for sale right now.)

Just found out the entire left side (quarter, door, and fender panels) had been replaced. Spoke to the guys "brother" who owns a body shop, and he said the paint was a 9.5 out of 10.

Just thought I'd pass this along.

By the way just got the BBSC & Headers, two days ago. Oh my!!!!

You must realize that the NSX community is a very close knit one. I recently totaled an NSX(Lud has the VIN)and wanted everyone to know that if my car ever resurfaced with a clean title and in PERFECT shape, to be leary of the person selling it. I would want to know if the car had any work done to it and you should feel the same. The best thing to do is be honest and tell potential buyers of the cars history, versus them finding out on their own and you looking like the bad guy pulling some scam. You can admit that THAT is why the price is so low, as Lud had mentioned previously.
Sincerely,
John

817 miles, and the car is in Bakersfield?? Yeah, that's about right. After visiting the g/f's family there (Bodfish..yuck), I wouldn't drive an NSX around. (Bakersfield, Fresno, and Lompoc are places I will NEVER visit again)

I just talked to this guy in Bakersfield and he didn't mention anything about the left side being replaced and I asked him if it was ever in a accident and whether there were any body work done and he denied it. He told me that there was acid damage on the front bumper. I then continued to ask him about the car, found out that it was in the dealer shop, telling me that it had an oil change and then I asked about if the AC was working and then he stated that it was blowing cold air then proceeded to tell me that the dealer is looking into it. Then he said the windows don't go up very fast. I thought that this window thing concerns '91 and '92 not '97. I asked about the interior and figuring being a car with 817 miles(I really doubt this figure now) it must smell like a new car and he told me that the leather is not soft since it had been sitting out in the sun. So I don't know what else is wrong with it but it doesn't sound like a 817 mile car. This car is like looking at a 60 year old person and finding out that they are really 40. If you don't take care of your car this is what can happen.

I think unscrupulous sellers just need to accept the fact that they're screwed if their buyer was savy enough to find NSX Prime.

Don't waste OUR time coming here to tell us to not help out the buyer.

If a buyer comes here looking for advice, they're going to get it. If you're a seller trying to misrepresent a car, that's your problem...
