A 1500 Miles with NSX type R suspension

Ken,

let's hear what's the exact lap time!

Hi Andrie,

I guess you wanna hear the smack, LOL :D

During the time trial portion of the NCRC event I sandbagged a bit and wrote down a time of 2:05 as my guesstimate given that my hot lap was not picking the beam and I had no clue on what times I was getting during the morning sessions. Ended up being gridded towards the back of the pack (2nd from last) and had to spend the first few laps passing most of the folks who were gridded in front of me, according to the time sheet I pulled some consitent 1:59's with traffic and a fastest time of 1:57.xx with traffic during the trial.

I knew that the car had a bit more left given that I was not WOT through some turns in fear of hitting cars who were in front of me who I was not quite able to outbreak because I was using street tires, hehe. (Passing under braking is fun at Infineon, learned quite a bit by watching your race videos :) )

This was proven later on when I diced it out with a M3 Lightweight running A032. (TCDesignFab tuned E36 M3 with Moton's, you know who owns the car and who is driving it these days..)

http://www.tcdesignfab.com/m3 lightweight.htm

My HotLap Timer was not working but the M3's LapTimer was and he was behind me for almost an entire session after passing the M3 while following an Evo MR with some serious rubber 275 RA1's all around that blew by me and by the M3 (The Stasis Engineering Evo was pulling consistent 1:53's) The Evo opened the door and I just followed ;). I was able to stay in front of the M3 for the rest of the session and pulled slightly away from him at times. The M3 recorded several 1:56's and a 1:56 flat with various amounts of traffic on the track in the advanced run group, so I'm guessing that I should have been pulling some comparable times at a minimum. I think that I can manage to shave another second off if I can take a cool down lap before trying to set the fastest laptime and of course with no traffic :)

My best laptime before was recorded at the Speedventures (www.speedventures.net) event at Infineon on 4/10/04 and it was a 1:58.52 (with AMB Transponder), SO3's mounted on GC07's with Tein RA's with similar track temps as today.

My last event at Infineon was with Track Masters on 8/22/04 and I was only able to mange some 2:05~2:07's :( given how crappy the Tein RA's were handling, with the GC010's and after having the car realigned after getting the rear right knuckle assembly replaced.

Given that you are still 2~3 seconds faster than me, you can probably match your old Civic's laptimes of 1:52's with my NSX and the R suspension and the GC010's with SO3's, hehe :D

Ken

BTW: I usually watch your Honda Challenge video before heading to the track at Infineon, so you still get some credit indirectly ;)

Now I gotta dig up some California Speedway videos before heading down there for the Speedventures event before JGTC Live weekend. Got any good videos?

It would be interesting to hear how the suspension works with real race slicks (Although I'm pretty impressed what you do with S-03s on dry track which I only use as rain and intermediate tires).

Ken,

those are some good times you pulled. I'm impressed. I assume you run a short 7 configuration. Still a darn good time with only type R suspension as the mod. I am thoroughly impressed with the type R suspension since I drove it last time. Jim's car was awesome at Infineon running street tires. I guess, the only other suspension kit that perform better is Comptech pro and Moton.

BTW, tell Fong he need to step up his game. I'm available for coaching, and maybe will work better with him than Tony :)

Hi Andrie,

Yep, it was the short 7 configuration (standard ALMS config), and the NSX-R suspension is really sweet going over the esses and into turns 9 and 10 and also into 1 at WOT :). I'm sure that it will kick some serious a$$ at a fast track like Reno-Fernely going into the esses at 120+mph :D

BTW: Which suspension did Jim have on his car, the NA1 NSX-R or the NA2 NSX-R suspension?

I'm pretty sure that you know but there are differences in spring rates as well as valving between those 2. So you might want to get a ride on my NSX with the NA2 NSX-R suspension.

Show up early for the JGTC weekend at CA Speedway that way you can drive my car while I learn the line and steal some track secrets from you :D

Hi Wolfgang,

I'm not sure how well the 10kg/8kg spring rates would work with slicks, some fellow NSX drivers here in NorCal that drive with the Yoko slicks usually need to run the Comptech Pro suspension in order to be able to maximize grip with slicks. And even then one of them needs stiffer front spring rates than the stock rates on the kit.

I think that the car still has a couple more seconds left with wider front tires and some more aero mods to increase front end grip. It might be a while before I run with slicks, so perhaps some other folks will have to take the plunge first ;)

Ken pulls some impressive times at Thunderhill too this time ard...
Comeon Ken, dont be shy.....

The M3 is doing well...at least good enough for my driving (or lack thereof) ability..:)
