97 Integra type R

I have owned 4 integras and the smartest option for you is to buy a an auto LS (or a 5 speed) for around 2k and get a JDM/USDM Type R motor and LSD trans for 4k. You would still have money left over for paint and you wouldn't have to worry about theft b/c there isn't the type r wing and stickers all over it. Working on these cars is sooo easy. I would gladly build it for you. Plus, having an LS chassis would keep the insurance down. EVERYTHING can be added to an LS to make it a Type R....5 lug conversion, wing, wheels, seats, suspension...hell you can even remove the AC if you really want that JDM type R experience. I will gladly pass on any knowledge I have to help you. Feel free to PM me and we can talk about.

Jay

You guys are better than family.

You can roll your eyes all day, but that's the reality. You're not making anything an R by throwing parts at it. Just as you can't take any USDM NSX, throw some NSX-R parts on it and claim it is one.

Unless you're Spoon.

There's nothing wrong with putting R parts on a lesser model for performance benefits (as long as they aren't stolen!) but when such clean examples of the Integra R are out there and available at low cost to someone who is patient, it makes no sense to not have the real deal. There's way more to an R than an engine swap which was very thoroughly described earlier in this thread.

Not titanium, but they (the con rods) are indeed lighter than the GS-R. The seats may or may not be lighter, but the cool thing is the bottom cushion is softer than the GS-R, which makes the relatively stiff ride a lot more tolerable.

The 97 was the lightest one, mainly because it came with no A/C (dealer installable) and also deleted the rear window wiper. Starting in 98, all ITRs came with A/C. The 97 also does not have the fake carbon textured parts in the interior, except for the instrument panel bezel.

edit: oops, I see 8400RPM already mentioned the A/C.

98 iTR do not come with a/c factory installed. I bought mine new in 98 when I worked at the Acura dealer. A/C was dealer installed accessory. I drive mine with no ac for the pure performance feel, but had the a/c kit at home waiting to be installed. Which I did when I sold it to my brother. It was the next best thing to the NSX.

I can honestly say that the itr, if picked up for the right price is probably one of the best investments out there. Low maintenance high demand. Can't beat that. Low mileage is key.

You'd be wrong, but that's okay.

Is now the time for you to extol the benefits of the reinforced chassis and extra lug on the wheel hub?

:p

Oh that's neat, which ITR Expo's have you attended? Sorry you had such a bad time that you hate all of the owners.
