The authorities can impound your car and...if you take no corrective action (get valid cert or remove it from the state)...then they will crush it.

Cars cannot be sold in California without a smog cert within 90 days prior to the sale. It is incumbent upon the seller to have a smog cert, it would be illegal for the seller to sell the car for anything other than "off road use" or "parts only".

good luck

I always see RED when I see things like this happen. Cali has these dictatorial emissions laws that only apply to Americans. I lived for 4 yrs in Eastlake/Chula Vista in southeastern San Diego. Every single day that I drove up the 805 to work in downtown I would see dozens of cars registered in Mexico driving the same freeway as myself just pouring out smoke & pollutants from their exhaust systems (assuming they even had one in place). Several cars I got to recognize over the years by seeing them several times on the freeway which led me to guess/realize that they likely lived in Tijuana & drove up to work in SD. Just imagine how much pollutants those POS' pumped into the San Diego airspace. And yet, if OUR cars did not pass emissions/smog with flying colors you have the potential to have your car impounded? What a travesty of injustice...

I hope you take out your frustrations at the voting booth in November!

I wonder how the car can run correctly without 02's?????????????

If your headers don't have a "Bung" for an O2 sensor you will need to have one welded on by a muffler shop. From the way it sounds be careful where you take it, they may turn you in. Find some pictures of other aftermarket headers for the best location for the "Bung". You will then need to install two O2 sensors. NTK makes a good O2 sensor and is reasonably priced. Don't buy OEM on this part. Check on-line, try NGK Wholesale. I think they are around $60 ea. You may have O2 simulators plugged into the connector. If you don't you would have a check engine light.

Here is a site with senors for $53.85 each.

Here are your "Bungs" for $4.99 each.

I would bet you can purchase the bungs locally at a good parts store. Buy the ones that match the material that your headers are made out of. i.e. steel to steel or stainless to stainless.

Did you have a pre-purchase inspection done prior to buying the car?

Keep us posted.
