'91 NSX w/exhaust vs. Mercedes SL65 AMG

I think up to 70 that a 4 car lead sounds reasonable, but only if he was able to launch the NSX perfectly out of the hole. However, by 120 mph, I bet that lead would stretch to 20 cars.

I felt like I got a perfect launch and it was actually even up to about 30mph (2-3 seconds, LOL). It was about 1 car length per 10mph after that. So to 120mph it would have expected to lose by about 9-10 car lengths.

I need to remember this if I ever want to race against an SL65 on the new TV show, "Pinks". :biggrin:

By the time you hit 120 mph, I would estimate the SL65 is about to bump into its 155 limiter. As the speed differential between you and the SL increases, the distance between the two increases even faster. Also, the 65 is approximately 2 seconds faster than a 3.0 NSX in the quarter mile, so I believe it would have a 10 car lead just in the quarter mile and the NSX would have only reached about 105.

Good luck on "Pinks". :smile:

and a $190,000.00 V12 AMG will pull an NSX.
These types of posts crack me up,
WRX, Z06, SL65 AMG etc.
Just got back from a blast down PCH in the 94.
No interest in any of the other cars mentioned above,
still wearing an ear to ear grin. :biggrin:
This is just a street encounter post, personally I like reading posts on actual street encounters or racing experiences on tracks against other cars, especially against cars that are more expensive than nsx.

A 600 + HP vs my 270 HP, that will be a humbling experience. I have to experience that too. So far no one has given me that exercise of humility as of yet. Untill that time my baby is still the king of the road.

Me too!! :biggrin:

He was probably taking it easy on you b/c he had starbucks in one hand, cell phone in the other. most likely calling his buddy and laughing at you. :biggrin: :biggrin:

btw, nice death. You gotta try it even if you don't have a chance.

Actually, the SL65 has more displacement than the SL600 (6.0l vs 5.5l I believe)

The numbers are related to the Displacement just like BMW.

So...

SL500 = 5.0 V8
SL55 = 5.5 V8 SC
SL600 = 6.0 V12
SL65 = 6.5 TT

V8 and V12 displacements on MB

Incorrect. You are correct that most models for BMW and MB do share engine displacement size w/ their model name (ie. 330i = 3.0L, S350 = 3.5L)

CerberusM5 was correct in his comment about the 65 & 600 model's displacements.

SL/CL/S_AMG65 = 6.0L V12 36v bi-Turbo (612hp)

SL/CL/S_600 = 5.5L V12 36v (493hp)

SL/CL/S/CLS/CLK/E/SLK/C/G_AMG55 = 5.5L V8 24v SC (500hp)

S/CL/S/CLS/CLK/E_500 = 5.0L V8 24v (302hp)

my mistake, I kind of jumped ahead of myself when i looked at the 500 and 55 and assumed the 600 and 65 followed the pattern.

sl65 will kill our cars unless its against the red nsx from aem(Single Turbo running on alcohol 700+hp) :biggrin:

haha i bet if we were racing on a long downhill course, the AMG would brake fade cuz all the weight and end up at the bottom of the mountain (a la INITIAL D Style!!) LOL!!! :biggrin:

Hmmmm. If a kid in a Civic pulls on an NSX he is an annoying ricer wanna be. But somehow everybody here also supports TTony pulling on an SL65. I wonder if the Merc forums are talking about the ricer-esque attitude NSXers are demonstrating these days?

Anymore, I would be afraid to pull on a Civic from a stop light.

haha actually i bet the guy on the Merc forum prolly said something like...

"yeah some guy in one of those Honda Accord things tried to race me.... haha"

I have had the "pleasure" of watching the tail lights fade on the wife's SL65 many times in many cars, it is a true beast.

Well, we got revenge for you this past weekend:) One of our friends at the “Roll ons” owns a Renntech CL65. We raced from 55mph to 170mph. It was an incredibly close race with the CL pulling out front about ½ car from 55-140mph. We pulled about a car from there and let off just before the finish because of some high wind. On that run we were running off the 9lb spring, maybe we will get to run again this weekend with 15psi:) We actually have video if we can figure out how to convert the 8mm. The CL is the ultimate luxury car!

Hey guys,

Congrats on beating the twin turbo Euro trash. :wink:

It does not get any closer than that. It was exciting to hear the results last weekend. What's next Ford GT?

By the way, how much rwhp are you making at 9 lbs? 15 lbs?

There was a Ford GT40 there also, Daniel tried to get him to run but he declined. 9psi in that heat was around 484rhwp. We dyno’d 565rhwp@15psi yesterday. Can’t wait till winter:)

Are you back in town? We will be out there again this Sunday to run her at 15psi. Special guest star Jon K. from HKS is coming with us.

Have you seen the size of those 8 Piston Brembo's?

Brake and fade do not co-exist when those "hands of god" are on your car.

They're 15.4" in diameter up front. Pizza hut can barely make a pizza that big.
