90k service

I am meeting with my mechanic to discuss things that I would like him to work on within the next few weeks. In addition to the basic 90k service, I thought I would have him check the hoses, adjust the valves and change my cam seals. The timing belt/water pump was changed about 18months ago (7k miles or so), he just changed my brakes, rotors and flush the system, flushed my coolant, just changed the oil. Is there anything else that I should have him do or check? Since I have his complete attention I would like to get a finite list together for us to review.

Thanks!

pixelhaus,

The 90K service is pretty comprehensive. Since you have done the T/belt already, the valve adjustment is included in the 90K service, and you seem to really be on top of your maintenance, you are in good shape. I believe the 90K also includes trans oil, make sure you do that, if it has not been done. The 60K service (if I recall) changes the fuel filter, so if this has not been done I would do that too.

In regard to your cam seals, there are two "seals" per cam. The cam "plugs"(by the spool valves) and the cam "seals"(gear end). Cam "seals" require more work then the cam "plugs", so I would inspect them before just having them done. It is a shame these items were not done with the t-belt change, a lot of labor is repeated.

Might want to think about:

- all lube points in the service manual
- checking tightness of all the transmission mounts
- plugs/wires
- anti freeze
- fuel filter
- lubing the windows/guides in the doors
- checking the pressure in your AC system
- air filter check
- check your battery
- checking / changing your clutch & transmission fluid
- inspecting you suspension carefully for any brakes, cracks, etc and checking the boots for leaks, cuts, whatever
- inspecting you tires for nails, cuts, whatever
- inspecting the cooling fins in front for your AC
- brake fluid, pads, rotors
- inspect the SRS system (note - might be better to have Acura do this as they did mine for free and you wouldn't want anything to happen to you/your mechanic)

That's all I can think of - good luck

At some point, I think it's a good idea to replace all the hoses in the cooling system. You might want to consider doing that now.

This service is not specified in the maintenance schedule, so anyone's opinion at what is a good point to do that is just that - an opinion. A suggestion for anyone else would be to consider doing it at the same time as replacing the timing belt and water pump, just to give it a service interval that's easy to remember and makes some sense (to me, at least) as far as how frequently to do it.

YOMV.

The hoses will let you know when to replace them: when they pop and dump your radiator fluid all over the road killing every cat in a one mile radius. Please fix this now, think of he kittys!

All of these items are routine scheduled maintenance. And many of them are only done every 90K miles (or 6 years), so it's not like you're paying for all of these things three times every year.

For the most part, the costs you're looking at are no different from those for properly maintaining any other car.

Unlike the cost of tires.
