hi ppl,

I own a 91 NSX in Portugal and b4ecause we have only about 10 cars in all the country i s not easy to get a good mechanic for this car.
I recently change my clutch and flywheel ; after about 10.000 km I have noticed that the 2nd gear doesn´t enter if the revs are over 5000rpm.
I have to take my foot of until 4500 then is ok.

Do You thinc it can be the syncro rings?

My second problem is the ABS pump: Every time I start the car the abs pump makes a funny noise(like bearing balls in a jar ) wich is quite loud, this stops after 40 seconds and never comes back until I start the car again.
It is possible to repair the pump? because I´ve been told that I need a new pump.

tnx alot

2nd gear

Could be the clutch or the synchros.

ABS

If you can live with that it's of no worry now. The system looses it's pressure while the car is sitting. People who DO get annoyed by the ABS pump get to hear the sound every 10 minutes or so, in town with people listening/watching etc. Yours seems to be fine for now. If you can't live with it I'll have a ABS system for sale here in Europe in about 2 months.

Yes, the problem with engaging second gear could be due to wear on the gear itself, on the synchro, or on the hub selector. These are all pieces inside the transmission, with teeth that are nicely squared off when new, but which can wear down, especially if the driver is not good at matching revs when shifting.

My recommendation is that you find a very experienced mechanic, one who has rebuilt many, many manual transmissions on other cars (obviously, not on the NSX). Have him work on the car. He can open up the transmission and inspect the various gears, synchros, and hub selectors, and replace whichever one(s) are worn.

It is normal for the ABS pump to make noise when the car is first started. However, if you have not engaged the ABS in a while, it's also a good idea to exercise it (just go to an empty parking lot and slam on the brakes VERY HARD) just in case the solenoids are stuck.
