Anyone else watching weekly?
It's probably one of the only shows I watch regularly.
I am liking the twists and reversals of the plot.
Tonight was pretty good.

Completely addicted.
Haven't missed an episode yet.
Waiting impatiently for tonight's episode.....

You'll like it. I won't even hint at anything.
My wife and 5 year old (Bad parent) Are addicted as well.
In my defense my 5 year old may as well be 10.
We kind of edit out the graphic stuff for her. She is a Cloe fan.
Let me know what you think tomorrow.

P.S. Are you really going to get rid of your NSX for a F 308?
(If that is what your sig means.)

No that was a quote from the NSX when i brought 'er home saying "bye and get out of my spot in the garage", so i had to get rid of the F-car.

great show. I only recently got into it after I bought the season 1 DVD for my mom this past xmas. I've been addicted since =) Gotta catch up on seasons 2 and 3 soon.

Up until tonight's episode I couldn't stand Cloe, but she finally manned up and earned my respect tonight hehe

My favorite show! So, I decided to buy all their DVD set. If you liked season One, then you'll love Two more. I thought Season Three was weakest of all 4 seasons so far.

I used to enjoy Alias as well, but I was disappointed after the 4th episode this season...so I stopped watching it.

love it.. jack bauer should be president!
I was thinking the same thing as well when the idiot president couldn't make a freakin' decision.

Can anyone explain how Jack and his team got from CTU headquarters (which i think is in LA), to central Iowa where Marwan was, in less than an hour???

That something that also disturbs me... in the first seasons they really tried to simulate the continuos timeline. Now between ane pisode and the other some character seems to have traveled for many hours... :(

Marwan is still in L.A. The bomb is in Ohio.

Im so addicted to this show that there is to be no interuptions from 8 to 9 at my house. HAHA! Yeah, Chloe impressed me last night as well. Emptying a clip into that guy while he headed straight for her and didn't even flinch.

The "Pres" was getting on my nerves though.

Great show. This has been in the top five of my Tivo since the first season. I have been watching it live the last couple weeks in HD.

Chloe handled that M16 pretty well!
I'll bet she becomes a field agent next season, if not before.

Why, if the anounce right before the show begins about it being in HD, do they only transmit in 720i as opposed to 1080i? Or does that have to do with the local station that is doing the broadcasting?

Armando

Sorry. I meant that the show is so good that I prefer to watch it (and the commercials) live in HD. It has been in HD as long as I can remember, most shows are these days. Even though I have HDTV, I usually just watch the recorded version on Tivo. I have the DVR box from Comcast in the media room, so I could record HD also but the interface is so bad, compared to Tivo, that I don't bother. It is nice to use the Comcast DVR to pause sports broadcasts.

I may be wrong but I think that is just the local station.

The local stations ABC, CBS, FOX, etc. Have to be setup with the cable company to broadcast both the SDTV and HDTV. 24 on Fox as an example. I can tune to channel 16 and see the SDTV version. I can also tune to channel 825 to get the HDTV version. Both channels run the same programs at the same times. If a broadcast is not recorded in HDTV the SDTV version is sent to both channels (16 & 825). My TV will add vertical gray bars to the sides to change the aspect to 4:3 from 16:9. I will note that a SDTV broadcast looks much better on the HDTV channel. I assume this is because it is sent to me digital, rather than analog, and is converted inside my box.

Armando,

There is no 720i HD, only 720p which is much higher quality than 1080i. Many tv's do not do 720p in which case 1080i is the best (same as 540p but prone to jaggies and crawlies).

I have never missed a single episode since the show has been on! TIVO is the best. I also own the DVD compilations. This year is slightly silly but now that President Palmer is back on the scene, get ready for go time

I stand corrected, 720p is the signal I get and on a 50" plasma its no where as good quality as 1080i jmo

Most broadcasts are in 720p because they use less bandwidth than 1080i. 1080i is true HD. 1080 lines is obviously higher than 720. The only difference is progressive scan versus interlaced scan. Most people prefer a 480p signal over a 480i signal. So in that case you would assume that progressive is better than interlaced. But when you increase the resolution the scan is less of a factor. Either way 720p or 1080i looks great on a nice display.

A DVD is 500 lines, I believe, double that of analog, 240 lines. Double the quality of a DVD and you get HDTV. No wonder it looks so good.

1080i is 540 lines shown twice. It is in no way higher resolution than 720p, and requires less bandwidth, since only 540 lines are tranmitted. The display takes the 540 lines and lays them down the screen skipping every other line, then returns to fill in the skipped lines giving you the "impression" of 1080 lines, but there is only 540 lines (or pixels) of info.

For a progressive setup, all the lines available are painted down the screen in one pass, which is why many sets were not true HD until the 768 or greater vertical resolution sets came out. True HD is at least 1920 by 768 pixels, and as it stands now, only a handful of units out there can do this, mostly the very expensive projection units. All of the others fall down in the horizontal bandwith department. Damn my battery is going out.. will finish later:(

720p is actually almost the same bandwidth as 1080i. The reason is if you take:

1280x720x60 = 55296000 pixels per second (60 frames per second times the number of pixels)

then compare with

1920x1080x30 = 62208000 pixels per second (60 fields per second, which is 30 frames per second)

The ratio is only 1.125. 1080i has only one eighth more bandwidth, one eighth more pixels displayed to your eye, and has more motion artifacts because it is easier to compress a progressive image rather than an interlaced one.

ABC published a statement on technical reasons why they chose to broadcast only in 720p, which included arguments such as these.

Back on topic, I love 24 as well! I agree with the previous poster who said the third season was weakest. This year seems to be turning out strong again. And that vice president was just horrifying! He's like a Dilbert manager, but in the most critical position possible!
