Very interesting. Powertrain is still the main issue. Would Ito being willing to eat humble on the already developed V10? Honda doesn't have anything else to put in the car to give it performance like the race car or even numbers equal to the V10's. Do they have a big IMA unit to slap on the 3.7 J series:biggrin:
People wont chunk down big dollars for a hibrid/v6 sports car. A v8 or v10 would be best suited especially since they seem to be going after the big dogs with this car.....ie LFA, 911, GT-R, F430 and Gallardo. When youre at this level of performance, buyers want the experience to be very visceral especially the sound coming from the car and unfortunately, hybrids arent the "sexiest" sounding things on the road!
That remains to be seen and Porsche is betting they will so they're striking first with a GT3 of all cars not just a regular 911

Ito is backed into a corner then as everything Honda is now supposed to be green and the HSV is pretty far and away from that. The name itself lends to the V10 engine. They could probably use start stop tech and VCM plus direct injection to bring up the MPGs but still not very green.
Have to say that due to all those things we're not gonna see it unless Ito makes a total 360. Hmm then price will come into play as well as Hondas don't do well when priced high.
Sidebar: It was very disappointing when looking at Car and Drivers 25 cars to wait for between 2012-2014. Not one Honda product but just about everyone else .. even Buick:frown:
What an exciting V8 engine sound from the race car.
When Pigs does fly....
when Honda brings this car to production,
I hope they maintain that small block V8 engine. Just for the sound. Forget chasing the Carbon Fiber, Almost $400K LF-A, it is in a different league.
The rumored production 5.0 V8 is too big. Keep it below 4.0 liters to maintain that sweet engine sound.
That sweet engine/exhaust sound is not because of engine size, but more to do with the flat crank design, just like Ferraris. Having said that, I want small displacement as well, higher RPM's .

The 12 Hours of Sebring wasn't the only season opener to take place this past weekend, as teams across Japan descended on Suzuka for the first race of the 2010 SuperGT season. And spectators didn't just enjoy the inaugural outing of the new Honda HSV-010 GT500 racers, they saw two of the five Hondas crash in spectacular fashion.
A slight drizzle at the start of the race resulted in the pole-sitting No. 18 Weider Honda, piloted by Takashi Kogure, to run off track and fall towards the back of the pack. Kogure later set the fastest time (1:55.555) during his fifth lap, working his way up to eighth place in the process. But one lap later, Kogure, the No. 32 Epson HSV-010 and No. 8 ARTA HSV-010 made an impromptu sandwich going into the first corner, sending the No. 18 and No. 8 Honda's into the wall.
You can check out the race results, along with the crash and the aftermath in the video after the jump, and get an eyeful from Suzuka in the gallery below.
