Anyone know anything about this vehicle? It is offered on Autotrader for $63.5k with 19k miles, in Buffalo, NY. The car was originally owned on Long Island near the city. It has been for sale for several weeks now at this used car dealership. The carfax indicates the vehicle was a "corporate fleet" car - are there any exotic car rental places on western L.I.? Any help or insight would be really appreciated. Cheers.

ALl I can say is do NOT trust Carfax to tell you that the car was not in an accident.

Last October I bought an 03 with only 2,800 miles from Performance Auto up in Long Island that was supposed to be in pristine condition and seemed to be a really good deal at $65,500. Carfax checked out as being perfect and the Acura dealership up there checked it out as being perfect.

After I bought it and brought it home.......the first time I took it for an iol change my local Acura dealership noticed that the tow hooks on the front of the car were almost ripped off the frame. They tols me it had to have been done by somebody that didn't know the right way to fasten a car to a tow truck and they would have to order new tow hooks to be welded to the frame and it would cost me approx $2,000 to fix.

After this I decided to get the paint checked out with one of those things some dealers use to see if a car has had any paint work.......... sure enough, the passenger side door and rear fender paint was much thicker than the rest of the car which meant that they had been repainted.

After finding out these things......I didn't want the car anymore. Luckily, I was able to trade it in for what I paid for it so the only money I lost was the sales tax I paid on it.

But.......JUST BE CAREFUL........have the whole car gone over with a fine tooth comb and get somebody to check the paint levels to see if there was any work done. Lastly, do NOT trust carfax to tell you if a car had any accidents or work done. Learn from my mistake.

I believe one must go see the car in person after the pre-purchase inspection and everything else has checked out. When you go see the car you need to personally go over it with a fine tooth comb. Ask the dealership to put it up in the air so you can see the entire bottom of the car and look for damage that might otherwise be hidden.

Check inside all of the jambs on the car to look for overspray that appears dry and rough. Look for small pieces of tape that did not come off the jambs when they removed the tape after painting.

If you do not personally go see the car, then you end up playing Russian Roulette......If you are paying $60K for a car, even flying from coast to coast is only about $1K and well worth the price of the ticket.
