Does anyone have the HONDA (JDM) not ACURA part number for the rear center tail lamp on the 2002 model? I just ordered 2002 Tail lamps, and i've decided to go ahead and get the center piece as well. My cost on the ACURA one is $140.00, but I'd prefer the H over the A. I found one online but by the time International Shipping and Local Shipping was added, I was paying $60.00 in just shipping, which is entirely too much on a $160.00 item, IMO. My dealer could get JDM parts if I had the HONDA part number. Hopefully someone can help. Thanks in advance.

-PS: If someone has purchased the Acura one, or the Honda one, perhaps you could tell me if it looks simple enough to remove the current EMBLEM and replace it, without damaging the lens.

Wow, i'm amazed. I've ordered 3 or 4 things since this summer, all with JDM Honda part numbers, for an NSX. No problem whatsoever.

Remember that the JDM lenses are darker than the lenses on the cars in North America. If you want all three pieces to match, you'll need to get all three for the same market.

I know this was true for '91-01 and I assume it is true for '02 as well.

Also, for earlier JDM cars, there are at least 2 centerpieces. One has a light silver "H" logo, the other is darker (more gunmetal) -- one of these is for NSX-R, the other is NSX (I don't remember which one).

I think they're now all the same with the new style 02+ rear lamps.

You mean they only have one JDM style, that is still darker than the USM style? Or are you saying that the JDM style and the USM style are the same?

Im amazed to see that there are people out there that actually pay with shipping almost $200 dollars for this $16 mod. Something that can be done for just the cost of a 2002 Honda emblem, some patients and hot water or a hair dryier. Heck you can get a type R emblem ( H ) if you wanted to.

If you look at any typeR center tail pic the only differnace is the acura sticker inside the center is removed and a honda emblem is attached on the outside. Also, the JDM tail lights are darker.

All you have to do is carefully take the center out and stick it in hot water to heat the clue and seperate the three pieces( front, back and center yellow reflector). Then remove the acura sticker and close it back up using the hot water again. Then apply the $16 H emblem and your done.

I originally did this cuase the one that was in my car when i got it had all scraches and looked bad. So i got one from a person that paid the $165 and got his GREAT condition one for dirt cheap. BUT if yours is in good condition you dont have to.I have acually done this twice once put the word ACURA emblem and now a typeR H.NOOOO it doesnt leak or get water inside, thats why you make sure to get the glue all gummy.. If you want to make double sure use some clear sil.

Id post pics, but they would just look just like any other type R center piece, with the differance of just paying $16 rather than $165 plus shipping.

If anyone wants to send me there center ill do it, and could promise it wouldnt leak......Oh wait, then id be making the people that charge that outragouse price have theres not sell......LOL

I read some were that the only reason Honda made the darker tail light is to hide the yellow turn signal when its not on.
If this is true the 2002 Jdm tail lights should be the same as ours. In the pic that Chris posted its not darker.

!! TWO THUMBS UP !!

See there is even a site that jimbo put on here showing step by step, and even with the better way to do it and put the H inside and not on the outside like the newer jdm does.

Personally i like it on the inside myself. Having it on the outside just looks like it doesnt belong there, and was just stuck on later.

=o)

THEPOGNSXTC, if it is worth something: the site that shows how to do this (and the write-up) is from the same person that sells the OEM center tail-lights. This means that Chris does not fear to go broke if people starts DIY instead of buying it. Many people want the original thing or simply do not feel that investing two-three hours for a worse product are not worth it. Just my opinion.

91-01 : JDM had "darker" red lenses, as their turn signals look red, but flash orange (USDM turn signals look red and flash red). There are still 2 different JDM center pieces: 1 for NSX, 1 for NSX-R (difference is color of "H" logo)
02+: I think USDM and JDM are all the same, as the turn signals are orange in both markets

gheba_nsx....

I think you missed the point of the jester, and take three hours... NOT!!! more like 20 min the most. I know where the diy came from Daaaaaa. Then about your comment about looking bad..Hmmm I have been parked next to one with the outragouse priced one and not one person could tell the diff... =oP

Saying that it would put the people out of buis was a joke, thats what ( LOL ) means.

Silly little boy.. ** giggles **

** wink **

OH HEY COJONES........

That white car you have as your avatar, what is it? Looks bad a _ _ =o)

Thanks

On http://www.scienceofspeed.com/sos_resource/DIYs/diy_04_hondah/
it is written 2-3 hours. I am very bad in manual working so I imagine it would take 3-4 hours to me (and many others) and I would end up with a worse product than the original. Of course there are people more skilled (you, I imagine) that can do this quickly and for sure better than I can! (I am not being sarcastic, I know I am bad in this kind of works).

At the end buying the original, for me, would be:
165$ new part - 80$ for my part I can resell = 85$.

3 hours of my free time for 85$? No way!

Acually you wouldnt be able to get $85 they go all day long for about $45 for the old center.

Your right some people it takes more time to do stuff. It does say it should take UP to 3 hours, but i dont see how. I have herd people take up to 6 hours to install white face guages and it took me I think 2 1/2. Maybe going and eating and then coming back time is included.. lol

But then again I have always done my own custom work. Im just to picky to let someone else do something that i know i can do with a little research...... Guess thats why i have done all my mods myself, and won contest for my work and i just do it for fun. Like paying to have a fiberglass sub box made or bought for $400 bucks( dali sub box ) when it only costs $25 bucks in matterials and some common sence to make.

To end... Some people just like to dish out the money and not get there hands dirty. But personally it feels better to be able to say " i did that " rather than " I paid someone to do it". I mean think about it, most people you take your car to do the mods are as dumb as a door nail.... At least if i crew it up i have nobody to blame but myslef... hehe but that never happenes.

Anyways.

From my observations in Japan, '02 JDM taillights are lighter than the '91-'01 JDM, although I don't know if they are the exact same shade as the '02 US taillights. Common sense based on the fact that they only sell about 250 cars per year would support this, as it's a matter of economics at that volume.
ICBW, however.

NSXnBRLA:

Which Honda/Acura dealer do you go through? Or, is it something you prefer not to disclose? JDM part numbers don't even exist in the American Honda parts catalogs, and dealers generally won't order anything not in the catalog. Yours is definitely an exception. If we had a US source for JDM parts, that would simplify things greatly. I will be getting a JDM parts catalog shortly, and a source like that would be great!
