Hey Guys

I am converting my 91 headlights to the newer style. I need to see some up close pictures of the underside of the 2002+ hood so I can make my hood look the same way. Also some up close pics of how the hood lays with the lights near the bumper. if some one could post some pics of this i would really appreacite it.

Thanks

I bought the hood for the older headlights. Now I decided to put the new headlights on. So I am modifying the hood and bumper to go with it. I just need some really close up pics of just around the headlight of how the hood meets up with the headlights on the top adn bottom. and around the fender.

Trust me its an after market hood and not sure they make it for the 02+ headlights.

Thanks

You need to PM Blkevil (Mike).

Here's his thread on converting an NA1 hood to fit with 02 headlights. He said he would not do it again due to all of the work needed.

hi guys, from the philippines here. I too just got a pair of 02 headlights that i am trying to fit in. would anyone be able to tell me how this can be done properly? DIVEBOY, i see you too are doing (or have done this) what did you do and how did you do it? I just plan to make the hood myself and modify the bumpers, just need to know how the lights were mounted? did you cut of or modify anything?

you need:
Hood
Headlights and headlight brackets
Bumper, unless you want to modify the old bumper. The cutout is much deeper on the 02+ headlights. (not worth modifying bumper)

just my .02 cents

if you yank out the wiring and plugs from the pop-up projectors, you can reused them. this is easier rather than and splicing from the main harness.

i supposed you can clean up the wiring later once you figure out the colors for the headlight wiring

You need about 80 different parts!

I am collecting the OEM parts and I'm atleast at 30 parts so far. The headlights need like 20 different parts each, the hood about 10, front bumper about 15.

Way too many small pieces needed.

Take the front bumper for instance....you would think, "just a front bumper"....the front bumper is 3 seperate parts, plus the main support, two support ends, 1 upper support, 3 seals, 2 tow hook covers, 1 other cap.....

I hand the hood and bumper from the start of the project for the older style headlights. It too me months to get them in from japan. And then I decided to change the headlights. They would not return them and i did not want to wait 2 more months get them and hope they did not come in broken. So i am just going to modify them from scratch.

I bought the 02+ headlight kit from Chris at science of speed. So i should have everything to make them work.

Hey Guys

well I did it. The bumper and hood came under the Dremel tool tonight. So no turning back now. Damn the torpedos, full steam ahead.

I will try to keep you up to date on how this goes.

Can any one meassure the the little gap between the curve of the fender and the where the flat part of the bumper is for the light. It kind of looks like there might be a 1 inch or so edge around this area. Could some please do a quick measure from the both sides and a couple places on the front.

Thanks

If you're dremeling an NA1 hood to an NA2 based on other's measurements unless you are Michaelangelo I am very concerned that this is going to come out looking the way you want it to. This a is a very ambitious project you're undertaking--as others have mentioned.

Good luck and keep posting pics. If you can pull this off you've got real talent.

yes I know. Just hang tight. I am past the worrying about it. I do have a lot of work ahead but I have not fear. I am use to working on the car. My other post is in the picture section "not for the weak stomach" you can see what I have been doing witht he car.

Can any one tell me if the flat spot in front of the headlights is level or does it have a slight downward angle to it. I would apprecaite it if some one could take a level and see thhis for me.

I have been working on the front bumper to get it all formed up.

what do you guys think of if I designed a pocket that could be layed into an older bumper if you did not want to switch the bumper but wanted the new headlights? Thoughts on this

Thanks.

Hi J,

It is not level. It slopes down toward the front and also slopes in toward the middle. Just eyeballing it with a yard stick it looks to be around 7/8" difference from front to rear under the high beam and around 5/8" difference front to rear just to the right of the low beam headlight. I wish i knew how i could get you an exact measurement.

hey Mike.

I really appreciate that. since there is no one in this area to see. that does give me an idea. I was under the assumption that it was level. That will give me something to go on tomorrow as I will be sanding out some of the pocket. To bad SOS does not make some pre done pockets. It would of saved me a lot of touble and could be simply retro to older bumpers.

hopefully I will post some more pics of the conversion up here soon.

oh by the way mike. you stold my idea. I was going to paint my headlights blue too. but it will be a little different color blue. Just kidding. They really do look awsome. I am so ready to get mine done.
