NEED ADVICE. HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO TRADE STRAIGHT ACROSS MY 1997 NSX 7 WITH 44000 MILES FOR 2000 911 CABRIO C4 WITH 21000 MILES. BOTH ARE CLEAN CARS. THE QUESTION I HAVE IS THE 911 EXPENSIVE TO SERVICE, ANYONE KNOW.

Why would you want to take a step down?

Seriously though, seems strange that a dealer would take a trade like that. The 911 cab should be worth a lot more..

I have heard they are not anymore expensive than a NSX.

what are the details on the 996? Full leather or partial. Supple package or not? (right there is $9500.00 worth of interior options). Tip or 6 speed? These are all factors that will severely effect the value of the car.

The 996 market has gotten soft lately so there are some great deals out there.

If the warranty has not run out you can always extend it. The car was a 4 year /50k so it may still be under warranty. Also make sure the rear main seal looks dry as they often leak, sometimes even multiple times (ask me 3 times how I know  ). If this needs to be fixed it's pretty spendy, otherwise they are pretty normal for a european car. Parts can be expensive, but that comes with the territory for any similar car.

The NSX holds its value much better than the 996. For whatever reason, the 996 has not held its value like the other 911s of the past. I've seen cases where the early 996s were actually selling for less than late model 993s. In my opinion, the 993 & 964 are much nicer.

Just for fun I searched Auto Trader for 2000-2001 911 within 200 miles of my zip code. Got 110 results. Did the same search for 1997-2001 NSX - got 6 results, only 2 that were reasonably priced. You have a very rare and desirable car -especially in Canada- no wonder you have been offerred a trade. The P-car is on every street here. I think you should keep the NSX, but if you are tired of it you would do better selling it outright and then shopping for the P-car you want.
