1994 lemans kunimitsu NSX GT2 videos.

They say that those LeMans NSX cars are the fastest NSX's in the world, but now I bet that title goes to the FX Motorsports car. :)

Fast for 2 minutes and fast for 24 hours are tough to compare. I'd like to see the FXMD car in something other than Time Attack.

I recall a Best Motoring where Tsuchiya was talking about the LeMans cars and noting that they were not limited by the 500hp restriction that exists in JGTC. He said something along the lines of the turbo LeMans cars were the fastest NSX's he has ever driven, including the GT500 ARTA NSX. An awesome article topic would be:

Suzuka 5 lap super battle!
1994 NSX GT1 LeMans
2009 NSX GT500
2009 NSX FX750

Fastest average lap time wins. Someone call BM...

This is what I was talking about:

Its tough to say. What's your definition of "Faster"? -Acceleration, top speed, lap time (if so -short or long track) etc...

The GT500 cars are pretty much Formula Nippon racecars with street car bodies and share almost nothing other than the A-pillar of the production car. The LeMans car was a factory-bodied turbocharged (GT1) car with no power limits and more power than the GT500 cars. It also has a narrow body compared to the GT500 or our FX750 which greatly improves top speed.

In the power department, I think we are good. We still need about $40K for a sequential transmission though, so if you hear of anyone... On a long track like LeMans, the LeMan NSX might be faster than the GT500 due to its higher top speed. While we aren't as narrow as the LeMan NSX, we have more power and 180mph+ isnt a problem, and we will be doing more testing of top speeds and standing-mile events soon.

On a tighter/more traditional racetrack, its hard to beat a 500hp+ NSX-bodied Formula Car. We are hoping in the next year or so to have the opportunity to run at Fuji Speedway and see how our times compare to the LeMans and GT500 cars.

To put things in perspective: at the moment we are very close to current ALMS GT2 lap times and Grand-Am Daytona Prototypes. We look to eclipse those times in the near future. More power, but no sequential transmission (stock) -which almost offsets the power difference on traditional racetracks.

At the end he was limping along with one working driveshaft/axle, and all along, the tranny was not going into gear correctly when the car was loaded in a corner. At the end, Tsuchiya said (in a bittersweet way), "It wasn't about winning or losing--it was like life. You have to just keep going without giving up."

From the video, the LeMans cars have a pretty fearsome setup:

Weight: 1000kg
Power: 650ps @ 8500 rpm

That is ridiculously fast by any metric.

But, I generally agree with Billy. I think Tsuchiya was simply pointing out that when he stomped on the gas of the LeMans car, it was faster than any other NSX he's driven. Also, I think a fairer comparison would be the 2001-02 JGTC cars, as they were the last to use the OEM body/chassis layout.

Thanks for sharing the link, great to see some NSX history!

The GT500 cars are crazy fast. When you consider the GT1 championship winning Maserati MC12 went there, and despite modifications, left because they were so slow in comparison, it gives you an idea...

I love the Factor X car, but then there aren't many race championships which would allow the power to weight figures it has. I suppose all types of racing have their own rules and resulting compromises.

Cars built to run Le Mans are built for top end mainly because of the Long straights. Even the American LeMans series cars don't run as long as straights like at Le Mans, Maybe Road America is the closest to the long straights that they race here. I would think the JGTC would be better suited for tighter circuits like Tsakuba(sp). Put a JGTC race car on La Sarthe and they wouldn't hang with the LeMans built cars, Same if you put a LeMans car on a tighter course, I think the advantage would be towards the JGTC. Then again 24 hours is brutal on a car, even the Petite LeMans(10 hrs/1000mi) or 12 hours of Sebring is brutal. Driver doesn't start pushing the car until the end of the race. Of course all this is just my opinion.

endurance racing is probably the second most extreme form of racing (rally being the first) to run that hard for that long, both driver and car, it really takes a whole new level of 'speed' so many things have to be considered and dealt with than when you're in a sprint race.

i respect (or try to) all forms of motorsports and even more so when someone is doing it in one of our cars! doesn't matter whether it be sprint, endurance, TT, Drag racing, or whatever! get out there and go wheel to wheel!
