WOW. All I know is that you can't blame the kid. Would you say no if your wealthy parents bought you a LAMBO? haha.

I guess its just a perspective issue. Kinda like giving your 18 y/o son a gun, right? If you grew up hunting, in a family of hunters, trained to hunt; then giving him a gun would not be such a "bad" idea. Same goes for the car. If the kid can handle it, kudos to him!

Looking at the vehicles in the background, I tend to think this is a new car his father got and the idiot is trying to play it off as his for some quick attention on the messageboard. Reading through the posts - this would be the 18 year old's 4th car already and I seriously doubt any parents would give them a $135k used sportscar.

The kid may be "mature" for his age, but he still doesn't have more than 2 years of real-life experience behind the wheel on the road which is NOT enough for that vehicle.

I don't care how long my kid had been around cars or how much money we had. At 18 he would not be driving a Lambo -period. That is like putting your life on the line on a game of chance. Just stupid. Sorry.

If someone had given me that car at 18 I would have never seen 19. The first thing I did with any car I got into at 18 was see if I could max out the speedo.

If the kid can handle it, great. I bet he will get a lot of ass with it. If he lives through the ownership he will have lots of great memories.

Looks like new money to me BTW, just got that feeling for some reason.

What if he was a racecar driver? I'm just speculating, because my old neighbor used to race karts professionally and then up to formula cars. He was given a Maserati at age 19 and although it was pretty darn cool, I don't think anyone (including his parents) ever questioned his ability to drive it.

I agree Steve, same feeling. The plantings, new construction, neighbors building in the background........ 4 yrs. old max?

You thinking hedge fund era?

Obviously it is ridiculous to give this kind of a gift to an 18 year old, whether or not they are going to be responsible with the car. I believe kids need to learn the value of a dollar and start to earn money at a young age.

We bought a new Toyota Camry for my mother in law last year and I plan on using that car for my daughters first car when she turns 16 in three years.

My oldest daughter wants to be on MTV teenage cribs, I was joking with my wife that we should have my daughter go to the garage and tell everyone that the Carrera GT is her car when she turns 16! She could tell everyone she can't drive a stick but she is going to practice with this car. I think we would have a lot of hate mail!

Hmmm, a Lambo bragging post on a country bumpkin forum. Sounds like Beverly Hillbillies material. 18 with a Lambo spell disaster to me. They might as well give him a GSXR1000 to sweeten the New Year too.
This reminds me of my son's 5th grade fat and spoiled schoolmate who pulled out $30 from her pocket to buy a chocolate bar off of her classmate.
Steve

There is some trash laying in the yard in the first pic. Shows no respect for what they have. Once again that is just my opinion. I could not walk by junk laying in my yard. I would pick it up but that is just me.

Totally agree. The parents are just not thinking straight. Some kids think money grew from trees..... Sadly, I do see lot of rich kids racing around with these expensive cars in my area.

Kid up the street from me a few years ago.

there have been a few others too. Lot's on motorcycles. My daughter is not going to be riding around with anyone and she will have a moped to drive when she gets her license.

It is absolutely ridiculous to give a teenager a car like that. Now, if the Lambo is his father's car and he lets the kid drive it every now and then, that is a little more understandable. However, as we all know, a kid just doesn't understand the values of life when being given inanimate objects like that. Wen I was a teenager I had access to nice cars and boats, however they were not given to me and I had to pass the parental test to use them unsupervised. Although this Lambo is a irresponsible gift to give to a kid, if the kid is responsbile maybe he can handle it. Unfortunately us guys know what testosterone does your right foot with a car like this.

Keen observation. Missed that broken hammock on the front lawn.

Yeah Yeah, and maybe he is from Mars and is actually invincible too. However, in this world.....I would not give an 18 year old that car. They would get a used Saturn 4 cylinder with an automatic that had 100K miles on it. Probably would not go fast enough to hurt them.

I would make my kid work for his first car like I did. I really appreciated my car because of it! If he can come up with enough money to buy a lambo..... well done other then that I would never buy my kid one. One question that comes to mind is would you feel the same way if a father bought a son NSX?

When I was in high school, some idiot bought their kid a brand new Viper. Wrecked inside two months. So of course, to make him feel better about his poor car, they bought him something safer, which turned out to be a Dodge truck with the same V10 the Viper had.

Saw the kid doing burnouts in the middle of the street about a month after that. Sure learned his lesson, eh?

How do you determine value at age 18 when a $150k car is given to you? You don't. He may never own any car, earned on his own dime, that compares.

At 18 my parents gave me a '87 Ford Escort so I could goto college. I loved it and I drove the snot out of it. My best friend and I lived an amazing semi-adult life out of that car. I went to the junk yard many times to replace parts that had failed. Almost 200k miles later I was done with college and moved on. I have owned several cars since including the NSX, non compare to the times I had in the Escort. Would a Lambo have made it any different, maybe...but I was happy to have any vehicle at the time. I was free.

Kid is screwed for life.

Just reminded me of my nephew's Indonesian friend when they were in Perth couple of years back. At 18 he was given a brand new Ferrari! And for his 19.... A Lambo! I'm sure that doesn't help kids to know the value of money. :frown:
