17/17 and 17/18 Tire Choices - not much left.

I never updated this thread. I ended up buying Advan AD09s last year in 215 40 17 front and 265 35 18 rear.

Those tires are simply amazing in dry weather. Grip is obviously better, and rain performance was surprisingly good. I had the opportunity to drive it in rain on long highway trips to both the MidEast meet and NSXPO last year. I have not had the opportunity to use these on a track, but imagine they would do extremely well and would tolerate track conditions. I currently have about 4000 miles on these and I expect to get another season or two out of them before the rear tread becomes treacherous for rain performance. I certainly hope so, given I spent “all the dollars” for them.

I still wish I could buy PS4S or S5 in correct sizes, but these will do.

Just ordered a 17/17 set, Michelin Pilot Sport 5 215/40 ZR17 and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 255/40 ZR17.
Are you sure you got those sizes correct? I looked on MIchelin's web site and neither size or variant was listed.

Who did you order these sizes from?

In EU those sizes are available.

Click on "maten bekijken" to get the list of available sizes.

And real-life proof 😁

I have those wheels as a track set

I seriously considered buying a set of Sport 5 from Europe, but by the time fees were calculated in, from the very few sellers willing to ship overseas, the cost was just too much. Further, no warranty at all (though probably not so important on these relatively short-life tires). How do you like them on your NSX so far?

I am currently running the AD08s, I wonder how the latest iteration will measure up.
Not NSX experience but I ran AD08Rs on my S2000 and changed to AD09s last year. For street driving, they felt very similar with the AD09s feeling overall a bit better but that could be more the fact that they were new tires. They apparently have better wet traction due to compound differences but I haven't done a ton of wet driving to notice a difference.

Haven't tested this set yet, but drove the NSX last year on S2000-spec wheels/tires with PS4, and for me it was a mayor improvement compared to the Falken FK510. The latter is also advertised a UHP tire, but for me it can't compete with a PS4 which is way more direct and communicative. With the PS4 I know/feel how much harder I can push the car, with the Falken I don't ...

Wow, in 2025, there really are far less options available:

215/45-16 & 245/40-17 (or 255/40-17)
- Bridgestone RE-71RS (street/track)
- Falken RT615K (street/track)
- BFG Rival S 1.5 (street/track)
- Falken RT660 (street/track)

215/40-17 & 245/40-17 (or 255/40-17)

- Yokohama A052 (street/track)
- Falken RT615K (street/track)
- Nankang CR-S (street/track)
- Yokohama AD09 (street/track)

225/40-17 & 255/40-17 - THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST OPTIONS for street focused and track focused tires performance tires for the NSX.

- Continental Extremecontact FORCE (street/track)
- Hankook Track Attack Pro (track/street)

235/40-17

- Falken RT660 (street/track)
- Nankang CR-S (street/track)
- Toyo RA1 (track/street)
- Toyo R888R (track/street)
- Toyo Proxes R (track, barely street)
- Toyo Proxes RR (track, barely street)

215/35-18 & 275/35-18
- Michelin PS4S (street)

225/35-18 & 265/35-18
- Yokohama A052 (street/track)

NEED WIDE FRONT FENDERS (Like Downforce):
245/35-18 & 275/35-19

- Continental Extremecontact Sport 02 (street) - Great street tire option for 99% of NSX owners
- Michelin PS4S (street) - Great street tire option for 99% of NSX owners

- Michelin Super Sport (street)
- Continental Extremecontact FORCE (street/track)
- Michelin Cup 2 (street/track)
- Yokohama AD09 (street/track)
- Hankook Track Attack Pro (track/street)

If you downsize the front a tiny amount from 215 to 205, there are tons of choices.

I’ve done this on both NSX I’ve owned, works great. I run Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 all-seasons, but many other tires available.

215/40-17 & 255/35-18:
Yokohama A052 (semi slick)
Yokohama AD09 (semi slick)
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 (max performance summer)
Michelin Pilot Sport 5 (max performance summer)
Falken Azenis FK520 (max performance summer)
Dunlop Sport Maxx RT 2 (max performance summer)

The Goodyears are really good in wet conditions too.

Do you have personal experience with the GY Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6? Tire rack does not have any data on the tire.

If you at going to correctly categorize the GY as a "max performance summer" tire, it would be prudent to call the A052 & AD09 by the correct "extreme performance summer" category, since they are not "semi slicks".

Personally, if you are going to go with a 17/18 setup, I would recommend a wider 265 or 275 width rear tire on. 9.5-10.5" rear wheel and not waste a good wheel/tire upgrade on 255s.
