Tried the search engine without success so I will ask, how many people here on the board use this weight for their tranny. The service manual calls for this weight or 10w-40.

I just replaced mine with Mobil 1 synthetic 10w 30. Shifting feels a bit smoother. Anyone else running syn motor oil for their tranny oil?

BTW, I have some Spoon Sports magnetic plugs I got for my old S2k. Can I use the tranny plug for the NSX?

In my NSX transmission, I have tried synthetic 10W30 motor oil, Redline MTL, and Honda MTF. I haven't noticed any difference among them at all. Now I generally stick with the Honda MTF.

I agree with Ken, 5-speed all three above. didn't notice a difference. 6-speed swap, I have only used the Redline.

A lot of guys here seem to like the General Motors trany fluid called Syncromesh and some use a mix of Syncromesh and the Anti-friction trany fluid. Like a two to one mix. Some say it is great. I have a 4th and 5th gear syncro that are getting weak and am going to try the Syncromesh when I get home in Feb. It will be fun to see if there is a difference.

I am currently using a mix of Quaker State 10w-30 full synthetic and some Energy Release and some Lucas Oil Modifier. I won't do that again. I have only had it in for about 1000 miles and am not impressed with my idea. Back to the drawing board.........Syncromesh, here I come. After all, we are only talking 3 qts, and an excuse to get out into the garage and under the NSX! Just crazy isn't it!!!!!!

Read up on the GM synchromesh and it looks like I'll give it a try next time.

I'm going through an experimental phase with this so bear with me.

I called Autowave to ask what they put in for NSX tranny's. Shane, from Autowave said they use the "Honda stuff". We'll they did all the work on my NSX so I changed it again yesterday and man what a difference! It is much smoother than the Mobil 1 10w-30.

I've always heard running synthetic fluid in your transmission is bad for it?
I ran Redline MT-90 in my S2k for years without problems. What kind of "bad" stuff can happen that you've heard of? I think if the synthetic oil is formulated specifically for the tranny you should be okay.

I'm currently using a cocktail of one part standard GM Synchromesh and 2 parts Synchromesh Friction Modified. I have 171,000+ miles on my tranny and she shifts like silk.

Maybe if its designed for transmissions. Personally, I wouldnt risk it, the honda trani fluids are good.
This is what the Type-R guys say. They're pretty smart guys....

"Because Synchros need a certain amount of friction to work properly, a full synthetic fluid will cause them to slip ...

slipping = heat

heat = death of a transmission "
