04 Completed exhaust system on a 96

I have read somewhere that if you fit 00+ headers (the ones I can get are actually 04) onto an earlier car (mine is a 96) that you need to modify the headers?

I'm looking at the complete 04 stock system inc. CATS as an upgrade and to match my 02+ rear valence.

Can someone tell me what exactly needs to be altered please?

Are you planning to purchase Headers/Cats/Exhaust complete? If you are, I think you are OK as is. It is when you use 00+ headers, but the rest of the system (cats specifically) are earlier year items.

So if you purchase the entire system from the heads out, it should fit a 1996. The 1991-94 cars will require a different rear sway bar if you use cats that are 1995+.

Yes I am planning to buy a whole 04 set-up, headers, cats & muffler. In this scenario what are the (I believe small) changes that need to be made to the 04 kit to fit a 96?

As I think further, I am not certain, since I recall now this is not a US 1996. Do you have a picture of your exhasut system from under the car? I do not want to give you bad advice. Since the car is not US, it may be different.

Sorry no pictures at the moment but I don't believe the UK or JDM right hand drive cars vary from the US with the hard components in the engine bay like exhausts. Steering columns, looms etc yes but not the other parts?

I will check further but what are the changes that need to be done if fitting an 04 system to a 96 car in the US?

I do not think any change needs to be made. The 1996 in the states has a revised rear sway bar already. The other mods discussed have to do with using earlier cats with 00+ headers. So if you are using 04 cats/headers and exhaust, I think you will be OK. You may have to remove the "hanger" for the front cat, since I recall the front 00+ cat does not have a hook for the hanger. This is a bolt on bracket, mounted to the rear beam, so easy to remove.
