Zanardi #8 on Ebay... JH4NA2120XT000134

It will be interesting to see where this bid ends up! Obviously with its sketchy history it is not for the purist looking for that pristine example like Ella'sD got, but still wouldn't you say it may be a decent canditdate? I mean if it is as Chris@SOS says as in only superficial damage I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker and guys with only 50 of these units out there and being driven like they SHOULD be they will only begin to decrease in numbers and Zanardis like this one will still be valuable. My guess is eventually very valuable.

You see when you look at other classic cars that have been around for 40 to 60 years a respray is more the norm than anything else. There are guys out there that race these classic priceless jewel Ferraris (and other classics) in classic car races all around the country and they do get banged up from time to time - does this diminish their value??? To some it just adds to the race history provinance! In other words get used to it - as our cars continue to age - there will be more and more of them with some damage history and that's just the nature of cars that are used and driven.

So point I'm trying to make, that while some of you may turn your noses up at cars like this one - others may see it as an opportunity to get hold of a rare one at a decent price with a little body work that truly is no big deal. If that is the case and I certainly haven't done all the homework on this one that it would warrant given its past, then it may be a good deal!

I bet Ella'sD might just agree with me in part. What say the rest of you?

I was going to say the same thing. Possibly not a collector's item, but still an excellent car to drive, and likely for much less than a pristine one. Certainly not a "piece of s**t" as one member so elequently put it.

How often do Zanardi's change hands? Maybe one or two a year, out of the remaining 35 or so left and when they do, how often can we see the selling price, market interest and other factors. Regardless of previous paintwork, mods, etc...it will gauge the market. Pristine, "No story" cars will be alot higher, rough cars will be lower. This is 100% still a collector car and IMO, is still a $41K to $45k car.

Lets not forget, up until the GTR it was Japan's most expensive, rarest and still, again IMO, the ultimate Asian Blue Chip cornerpiece to any collection.

Kid's got it right on the head here! I still think it is a collector too. In the future it will really be valuable. If there is an NSX, other than the rare, not imported into the us, R, then it has to be the Zanardi way over the 05s and 91s any day of the week.

If I had the cash and didn't have my car I would be figuring out how I might get this one. It surely makes one wonder what Ella'sDaddy paid for his! Must have been substantial. This one if the damage is all sorted like Chris@SOS is quoted as saying - it could be one of the bargains of the year!

Thanks to Kid for rekindling the interest here. You know Ponyboy, this might not even be much of a restoration project....I haven't scoped it severly as others may have. I'll be watching the auction - damn - if this thing sells below 40k we'll all be kicking ourselves....

Yeah, it doesn't seem to be that bad though that thought is entirely subjective. To pass all scrutiny in the future especially as a collector car, it would really need to be gone through aesthetically and mechanically. I subscribe to Sports Car Collector Magazine and those guys hammer even moderately restored collector cars.

Of course, that magazine hates the NSX. But when the market turns in our favor (read: young guys that lusted after these cars become older), IMHO, the NSX will be quite the darling. And the Zanardi will be the cream of the crop.

The Kid is sitting on a jem.

I too agree that once guys like us (age bracket 25-35) start to or are making good money you'll see the value of these cars rise. With such the non-molested, no accident Zanardi's, Integra Type R's, Supra TT's (stock already there) and others will become hot collectibles.

The Zanardi almost makes me want to hold cash to pounce on one when it appears for sale.

If I were the buyer of #8 above I'd send the doors back to Japan or send the car back to Japan for a refresh program!

Say Jet, do you know if that program is still going on??? I'm sure that would be expensive. WOW. But I read about that but thought it may have ended. I guess the ones that go to Japan this year on the trip mentioned on Prime will let us know.

Guys the Alex #8 is up to 38K didnt someone mention its original price, Or i mean what thsi guy paid for it or the dealer paid for it,

One way you might be able to get an idea is see if it's for sale on autotrader. That might be a clue - not sure. But you can most likely bet that it's over 40k. I'd guess somewhere around 45k but I may be way off. See if it's on autotrader.

I thought I heard the refresh program was retired. Someone might chime in to let us know for sure. Also heard that it costs $20k+ to do. Never met or heard of anyone doing it, so that could all be just speculation.

If they are building those Type R's for $120k then I'm sure there might be a possibility of it being possible...worth a shot to contact Honda.

They my even be interested in seeing a Zanardi Type S...?

I predict the reserve is $45k...

I spoke with the owner before he listed it anywhere. While it seems he is VERY into cars and racing (as in his job and life) he did not know much about this car. It was on the original timing belt and water pump until I suggested he get it replaced before selling.

One day left...it will be interesting to see if it sells. If it doesn't then watch the reserve get lowered and then it will sell beyond the $39,100 its at presently.

I work in downtown Indy, and can go check it out if it doesn't sell. If I do indeed get around to it, I'll make sure to get an update here on the thread.

All this Zanardi talk got me thinking, Im finally driving mine home to snuggle up her new home. My garage is finished and I can park both my NSX's in there for once.

I think this Z #8 is a $40k-41k car, should be interesting to see how it ends up.

As time goes by and we look back at #8 we will say - man - I could have had that for 41k - I should have bought it. That's my opinion - how long that day will be in coming - I'm not sure - but not that long - maybe 10 years and maybe less. I still say it may be a really good opportunity for someone.

Kinda shocked this is all the Zanardi did?
