Z06 Second Car?

Folks,

I just came from a ride tonite in a Z06 and I must say I was quite impressed. Not just with the incredible acceleration, but how refined, tight, and smooth the ride was.

I don't think I'm to the point of parting with my red beauty with RM exhausts, headers, springs, wheels and intake, but this may be a fun 2nd toy.

Has anyone else considered one? As an addition to your NSX or if you had a choice, would you get a new Z06 or used Viper GTS?

I considered getting one as a daily driver/beater car. The Z06 is a hugely competent bang-for-buck bargain. But it's sufficiently similar to the NSX (slightly worse ergo but better performance in stock form) that for me, getting both would have been redundant. Also, I didn't want to have anything to do with the Vette demographic (save your flames, this is just a personal subjective thing). I also considered getting a second NSX as a beater car, but that would have been even more redundant.

The Z06 is a great, relatively cheap (for the performance) car, but it's not as exclusive, not as reliable, not as good looking, and not as fast as my NSX - though it's clearly a performance bargain.

For a second car, if you don't care about practicality, I'd opt for a Viper. If you care at all about practicality in a second car, then a M3, M5, AMG CLK55, S4 would be a better bet. Personally, I opted for a used Dinan M3 (Steve's very own!) as a beater car because the Dinan was the a good compromise - it's stealthy, fun to drive, fast, and can schlepp people, bikes, etc.

99 NSX-Z s/c (same RWHP as Z06 with less mass)
95 Dinan M3 s/c (more RWHP than stock 3.2 NSX)

As much as I love the Z06, I would get a used Supra TT and spend few thousand bucks to modify it. Now you would have a faster, more refined, more reliable and better looking(IMO)car than the Z06. I'm not sure if the Supra would handle better than Z06 after putting some some coilover suspension though. However, I might change my opinion after I actually test drive Z06.

i know this might sound a little out there, and i know it is, but how about the new Subaru Impreza WRX that is coming out in a month, its only 23k and has 227 hp and 225 lb/ft torque, and its a turbo car so u can play with all of that and u could have a hp machine that could eat anything alive, plus its AWD so itd be a crazy fun oversteer maniac car

We are way into a pretty subjective area here, but if you are going to get another toy, wouldn't it make sense to get something radically different from the one you already have? Vintage muscle (mid-year Vette), or something beautiful and fun (246GTS), cheap and fun (Beck spyder) or vintage racing sanctioned (long list here)? Etc, etc.
