Okay, I just had to tell someone about this... cracks me up...

I finally got my new steering wheel installed today, and got an alignment done at the same time.

1) The steering wheel was put on one notch off center and must be held crookedly to go straight.

2) The car pulls very hard to the left when stopping, hard enough to pull the steering wheel out of my grip if I'm not paying attention.

Sigh.

When I called to see if it was ready, they even claimed it was out on a test drive to make sure it was done correctly. Yeah, right! Obviously they didn't try to drive, like, say, in a straight line or, you know, stop the car, or anything.

I'm getting it redone on Monday. I'm just glad I installed the shift knob myself, or I know it would be on backwards.

(On the bright side, the new steering wheel and shift knob look mah-velous.)

Next time try going to Main Street Auto Works in Monroe. 360-794-7480. Tell Tony that Mike Ruete ("Rooty") sent you.

It's an independant honda/acura shop, but they have a very clean shop, and impeccable customer service. I garauntee you will never find a more stand-up guy than Tony (except probably Mark Basch). Tony and his wife both have NSXes, and he's got several NSX customers (including me when I was up there). So while they may not be super experts like Mark Basch, they definitely know their way around the cars, and they pay attention to what they're doing and do quality work.

He charges way less for labor than Hackura of Hellevue, and has no issues with you mail-ordering parts and having them shipped to his shop (as long as you get the right parts).

He doesn't do Tires / Alignment, though. For that stuff, find a motorsports shop, they usually know what they're doing.

Of the actual Acura dealers in the Seattle area, I'm pretty sure Acura of Lynnwood is the place to go. I'm not sure if it still applies, but it used to be that if you mentioned the "Pacific Northwest NSX Club" to the right person, you could get a hefty discount.

Also, if you don't know any of the PacNW NSX guys, I'd suggest going to one of the club lunches. They're the first saturday of every month usually at 11:30am at Claim Jumper in Redmond Town Center. They're a really great group of people.

Okay, I took it back in today and checked the steering wheel's pull to the left at every stop on the way there to make sure I was right about it. I dropped it off and went back to the office. 15 minutes later, they called me and much arguing ensued over the phone as to whether or not it drove and stopped straight. I finally gave up and went back there, expecting to have to literally show them what happens. Except, when I got there, like magic, the alignment was perfect, and yet they claim all they did was tweak the steering wheel position a little.

It annoys me when people screw up. It really annoys me when they quietly fix the screwup and pretend I'm insane and it didn't happen in the first place.

Oh, and they got a big streak of grease on my new steering wheel.

Mike--

I think I'll check out Lynnwood and your guy in Monroe next time around, depending on what I need. Thanks for the tip.

I'm not sure I can make Claim Jumper at 11:30 on a Saturday, as I'm usually just starting to think about rolling out of bed at that time.

that would be a pretty funny story if it weren't true.

it's one thing to do a poor job; another to lie that it's a good job.
