I just don't get it. I turn on CNBC and what else could be on the news/business channel than "Sex Slaves in the Suburbs".

I don't even want to tell you what happened to a poor 16 year old girl on the show. It involves horrendous sex crimes, abduction, and zero arrests, much less convictions. Next is forced prostitution in suburbs in michigan, 15 and 14 year old girls.

The cops don't even show up half the time when they find the assailants if they do. Then they charge the good guys for breaking and entering to rescue the girls when cops don't show ups.

Sometimes it just blows my mind. I have a 100lbs vietnamese girlfriend who couldn't defend herself against a 4lbs puppy. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to her, much less abduction good God.

wth is wrong with people? "We've" been going this for thousands of years. How far have we really come.. I'd trade all our technology/wealth for some real improvements in human existence.

sounds crazy, saw a snipet of a report on cnn tonight about sex slave girls in cambodia, AS YOUNG AS 3 YEARS OLD,

when you find out WTH is wrong with humans, please let the rest of us know so we can clean to world up

You know, I wanted to be a cop. After seeing that show, I'm not so sure anymore. I don't know if I could take seeing that kind of horror- it would be too tempting to impose the final solution on them.

You can sit back and worry about what might happen, but that would consume your thoughts all day, every day.

Buy your 100 lbs girl a firearm and teach her how to use it.

Thats what I did for my wife and helps me sleep at night.

Very true. It is what it is. Better to take action than worry. At least she carries pepper spray now but that really isn't the issue. She freaks out extremely easy and I don't think that will ever change, just like I don't freak out easy. Not necessarily something one can adjust. Usually I don't let it bother me, but sometimes like when that show was on I'm just stunned.

My wife sees this all the time as she works at a child advocacy center. You can't even fathom the sick things that are done by adults (or near-adults) to babies, young children, and teens on a daily basis. Those shows only give you the tip of the iceberg.

The scary thing is, it used to be mainly older people doing this stuff. Now, it's widespread all the way down to six and seven year olds (and occasionally younger) where the young are abusing the younger. Pre-teen rape and abuse is now quite common between people of similar ages.

My wife had a recent case where an eight year old girl was forced to give oral sex to a ten year old boy. What kind of family raises kids that are so sexually driven as to have those kinds of needs at such a young age?!?!

People will never change. They (humans) have been like this since they started walking on earth. You can wrap all this technology, education and sophitication around the outside of humans and you will still have the same messed up humans on the inside. There is nothing new under than sun, but with mass media we become more aware of how truly we are screwed up as a society.

There is a movie made about this topic. The movie is Human Trafficking. It's a long movie but worth a watch. Keep the Kleenex handy.

Being human, it's really what separates us from the animals!:frown:

Animals are a lot more humane then we are. I realize it's just a glimpse into a very dark world, but that's part of why it bothers me. There are tens of millions of cases like the one I mentioned going on right now.

Humans are predatory by nature. For example, for some, the prey is money. For others (the sickos) the prey is other humans. As long as there are people, there will be people doing wrong to people.

I ran in the Chicago Marathon yesterday. The only reason I was allowed in is the event organizers took pity on me when I sent them an email that I tried to run during what was left of Ike and they cancelled the race 10 miles into it.

It was officially one of the hottest days on record and I saw nearly 2M people cheering us on and countless acts of courage, sacrifice, and kindness for total strangers. People helping people during difficult struggles and suffering. I saw people dash their own plans to help other runners, people providing medical assistance till help could arrive, and people running to their homes and back with ice, towels, and anything else to help.

It reminded me there are just as many (if not more) acts of kindness and good people then there are sickos and broken people.

It just doesn't make the news.

That is why there is so much (and increasing) negativity in politics.

People remember bad news more easily then good. There are dozens of books on the subject but that is basically how we are wired. To learn from bad news and mistakes.

Anyway - whenever I am down and am around people working selflessly for others it recharges me and gives me hope.
