Would your Acura dealer allow me to do this?

Should I be able to buy Genuine Acura parts for a timing belt/water pump replacement from one of the dealers who discounts parts and bring the parts to my dealer to have installed? Would your Acura dealer allow you to do this or do they require that you buy the parts from them? My local dealer quoted me prices over list for the parts. I can save about 35% having the parts shipped to me first. Is it worth asking to bring in my own parts or would I offend the dealer?

NSXOTIC gives good advice. I would be a hesitant to do business with a dealer that quoted you over list price, however.

Absolutely do it. I personally buy my parts from Gold Coast since they offer 25% off to NSXCA members and ship to me. Their service has been excellent, even though I don't do my work there.

Gobble I've done it I assume your taking it to AOB in Milwaukee. My last visit I told the Parts Dude I can save 30 percent from certain Dealers and he said he could not beat that so it's no problem. Just double check your Part numbers when the Car goes in so you dont have a problem when they work on it.

Yes I am going to AOB. John is great and I trust him completely with my car, both in the work he does and the prices he charges. I've never worked with a better service manager on any type of car.

The parts guy rubs me the wrong way. I asked one time if they discounted parts to NSXCA members and didn't like his answer or attitude.

Gobble, You like the service manager, but hate the parts manager? If I were you, I would look at feeding that info back to the owner of the dealership and the folks at American Honda. There is no excuse for a bad attitude from a manager providing customer service in a parts dept.

I hate to make a big deal of it. I would rather just buy my parts somewhere else. The service guys make up for what the parts guy lacks.

Off topic kinda! Last night I was at Courtesy Acura (Their name isn't well reflected in customer treatment) picking up my 97 NSX after some warranty work. I noticed in their showroom a Kaiser Silver 2002. Mine is the same color and I had to go look. Really similar in most respects. A saleman approached while I was looking closely at the tire/wheel combo and I mentioned that it would be nice to try them out on my car. He said with his best snobby Rolles Royce attitude "What, on your Integra?" I just about fell over laughing at this ass and said "No my NSX parked out front" of the window. I pointed it out with a smile and thought of all the people who stereotype you by appearance. Car salesmen should really know better! He went on to state " Well maybe if you have 3-4k you could order some".(BBSC fund!) I told him I could "Wait for some owner to sell used for much less" and happily walked out and jumped in my car while he watched. Any other happy Acura dealership stories out there.

I had a similar experience at a local Acura dealer when I went in for service. While I was waiting, I strolled over to take a look at the RSX Type-S that they had. Since I used to have an Integra GS-R, it was somewhat nostalgic.

At that point, the salesman walked up to me and asked me if I was thinking about trading up - I told him that I was very happy with my NSX, thank you.

Good response! I would've loved to see his facial expression upon hearing that... I love stories like these.

John Vasos and AoB are just GREAT! When I lived in Chicago I used to make the long drive past the state border just to have my NSX work done by AoB in Wisconsin. I know several other Chicago NSX owners do the same as well.

John is just a great guy and has a special appreciation for NSXs and the needs of their owners.

Anyone who was at the track event at Road America during NSXPO 01, knows how dedicated John Vasos is to the NSX community. Bringing in two lifts, the latest tire changing/balancing equipment and one of the best NSX techs in the Midwest, at his expense, and then refusing to charge for labor demonstrates "service" above and beyond...

I would agree with all the comments about John and the service dept. I would drive up from Chicago as well. Lucky for me, I live only 15 minutes from AOB.

You might want to talk with John about it anyway, to get his perspective. He may even be able to work something out with the parts manager so that they keep that part of your business too. It's worth trying to work it out that way, not only for the positive relationship between you and them, but also in case there are any problems with the parts that you ordered.

Incidentally, John and his people are absolutely wonderful, as noted above. I would go there with no hesitation if they were in the Chicago area. But since Chicago does have two high-quality dealerships (out of nine total) that do a lot of NSX work, there's no need to drive the extra ninety miles each way.

It's not the same color. For 1997-1999, the NSX was available in Kaiser Silver Metallic. For 2000-2002, it's available in Silverstone Silver Metallic. The two appear to be similar (a gunmetal gray metallic), but the metal flake particles in the Silverstone are larger, giving it a more "sparkly" appearance in daylight.

Gee, I'm surprised Richard didn't pick up on this in my absence.

Talk to John -- he'll set things straight. Sometimes even by offering labor discounts (or a total x% off) or something. Something somewhat unique about the AoB Parts Department is that they stock several aftermarket parts, in addition to keeping a healthy level of NSX inventory. For example, they used to carry most of Comptech's consumables (rotors, fluids, etc).

They also have some pretty decent "tuning" experience...
- built the GT2 NSX racecar that some of you saw at NSXPO in Laguna Seca and Road America.
- have some pretty innovative clutch, big brake and suspension setups.
- have some pretty decent CTSC experience -- he had his version of the high-boost kit well before the vendor did
