Would you guys take your cars to Vegas for a trip?

I'm planning on going to Vegas from LA, but am not sure whether I should bring the car or not. I know its not a Lambo or Ferrari or anything, but would you guys ever park it in the hotel parking structure? I'm planning on staying at Treasure Island. Would it have a high chance of getting vandalized? Anyone from Vegas care to chime in? Thanks in advance!

P.S. I don't ever plan on using the Valet.

In the past, I have stayed over with the NSX and parked in a structure, but I covered it with a car cover. Also, keep in mind that getting in and out of those parking structures is pretty steep. If you have a front spoiler you may have some slight problems.

One other thing to consider is that I-15 between Barstow and Baker is pretty cut up in several spots. Mainly, there are some small bridges along the way, each of these have the ashpalt cut up leading to the bridge and exiting the bridge, causing quite a jaw jarring experience even for vehicles other than NSXs. And for a portion on the westbound side, there is uneven pavement, where the right lane is a couple of inches higher than the left lane.

I've parked my car in the structures before (COVERED) and it did just fine..this was early this year during CES too which means...LOTS OF TRAFFIC and people everywhere.

I'd do it again.

Like Randy mentioned, the roads are not exactly peachy, and sometimes it just gets you unexpectedly..good luck and be cautious!

I agree with Ken that you're not in any more jeopardy than you would be in a parking structure here at home but...

I'd take another car. Why? The roads and traffic in and out of Vegas absolutely suck. Unless you're coming/going on off hours you're going to sit in traffic and not enjoy the car anyway. Plus why worry about the car when you can have a good time. With gas as expensive as it is... fly and then take a cab or walk when you're their. That way you can have a few cocktails and not worry about driving.

My 2 cents.

I wouldn't drive the NSX to Vegas because I'd probably bend a rim on one of those huge bumps that FuryNSX mentioned. The drive back is fine. As far as parking, I wouldn't hesitate to park in one of the hotel/casino garages.

If you are traveling to Vegas I think the bad time is Friday coming in and Sunday going back. I just got back from San Diego/Torrance over the weekend. Fury is right about the roads at I-15. My Nsx setup has H&R springs and it did'nt bother me. Re- parking I always use valet. Parking lots are always busy and you never know who parks next to you.

Wow, I've never seen anyone bother typing in using "title case" (capitalizing the first letter of every word). It sure makes it difficult to read...

Done it twice from LA... Had no problem with parking but watchout for low flying rocks on the way there and back- Got hit by pebbles both time resulting in pretty deep paint chips. Maybe it's just my luck.

I would leave it in the garage until I die then someone else can take it to Vegas and enjoy it.

You'll have no problem with it in a Vegas parking deck in a major strip hotel. We've got a few members here that drive it as their daily driver and one of them even parks it in a major strip casino nearly every day with no problems. Most casino parking decks has an ok security crew and cameras all over the place. I've driven mine in a number of times without any problems. In a money town like this, there is a very high chance that you'll park right next to a car worth twice as much (i.e. bently, porsche, aston martin, ferrari etc.) Speaking of which, that's also why you'll probably won't have a problem with the valets. Got to any casino and you'll see some pretty fancy cars out front. Most valets I've talked to do get too excited over an NSX, though they give it props. Having said that, I've never valet'd my car, partly because I don't trust strangers in general, but partly because I feel safe parking my car in a parking deck anyway.

IMHO you should be fine. Plus nothing beat rolling down the strip in an NSX. You'll get lots of attention and it's a beautiful place to take night shots of your car. Plus, you'll look like a total baller (if you're into that).

On the other hand, if you can't stop worrying about your car (i.e. you're freaking out when you park it at the mall and can't stop worrying someone is trying to jack your car or it's going to get dinged) then don't bring it. You will spend the entire time worrying about your NSX and you won't have a good time in Vegas and that's no way to spend in Vegas. Seriously, if you can't completely drop it from your mind, like it was a rental car, then you really should leave it. It will ruin what should be a really great time.

BTW, if you do come, make sure you let us know. A lot of us locals like to meet up with out of towners. And don't forget we have a really awesome meet on the 21st!

Have a great time in Vega$!

Thanks for the informative post VEGAS NSX! I actually, I must confess....I no longer have my NSX, but was thinking of taking my Viper there. I'm actualy glad you mentioned the number of WAY more expensive cars in the parking structures...that way my car won't stand out as much.

Part of the reason I want to take the car there is because it will be fairly new to me, and with every new car I get, I have the urge of taking it on a road trip...san francisco, Lake tahoe and etc. I'm thinking Vegas this year. How about the ramps to the hotels (or the speed bumps)? Any problems there? I think the Vipers are just as low as the NSX, and it would suck to get stuck and teeter-toter over a bump....but then again, I remember seeing a bunch of Ferraris, Lambos and tons of other exotics there....if they can make it, this car surely should. Thanks again for your input.

Oh man, a Viper, you'll be even more of a baller in that!

A Viper should be fine. There are speed bumps and such but not too bad. What you need to worry about are the ramps up the parking decks. The first clue that they are pretty bad is you'll see a ton of scrape marks at the edge. I did rough up my side skirts once on a speed bump at the entrance of the MGM Grand parking deck so it is possible. The TI parking deck isn't too aggressive so I think you'll be ok.

I have seen quite a few Vipers around town (four of them with over 1,000 WHP actually) and you can even rent them on the strip. Also keep in mind that if you ask and tip well, most valets will either let you park it yourself or park it right in the very front area if you choose. Valets here are pretty used to high end cars, unlike most valets for, say, a typical restaurant or standard hotel. The do drive like maniacs though, check out the Mandalay Bay for example, you'll see them screeching around corners as you enter the hotel.

However, here are some caveats:
1) Don't announce where you'll be staying. Normally your car should be safe. But I have heard of cases of people who browse car sites for that kind of info (or car meets etc.) for easy opportunities. If I was a theif, I'd just look for a Viper at TI and if you announce that you're going to party at say 10PM, then I know to jack your car then. It's a good thing you haven't said "when" you'll be there. Make sure you don't.
2) If you do bring the car up, park as close to the elevators and on the floor closest to the casino level. I know it sucks to squeeze your car inbetween other cars, but there is usually so much traffic near the elevators at all times, it makes stealing a car much harder. It's also usually better lit, and has more cameras in that area (you'll see them). It's tempting to park on a very high deck far away from everything else, but then it's itching to get broken into.
3) While it's nice to have a bad ass car in Vegas, driving on the strip is very difficult (traffic). You'll often opt to just walk to your destination. In which case, you'll car will just sit there for the entire trip. At that point, it might as well be a rental car. Exceptions: If you plan on travelling off strip, going to the Hard Rock, Palms or Rio.
4) The roads to and fro Vegas can be pretty crappy. You will get rock chips. If that sort of thing bugs you, then you may want to leave the ride behind. Speaking of bugs, there's some of that too. Your car will be dirty by the time it gets here. That bothers some people too, and seriously a sweet ride like that needs to look clean BUT do you really want to come to Vegas to wash your car?

As I was saying before, if you can truly not stress over your car, it should be fun to have. Especially if you plan on going off strip. The weather here is nice now, and I can show you some killer roads to really let the Viper stretch its legs. You can get away with so much more in Vegas than you can ever dream of in Cali. But the last thing you'll want to do is stress over your car, or have an "incident" on your vacation. The strip is safe, but that's not to say things don't ever happen. Let's put this way, people walk around alone, in the middle of the night, all over the strip, and feel perfectly safe. How many other cities can you say the same for?

Again, hope you have tons o' fun either way you decide. If you have other questions or want some personal advice, feel free to PM me.

Wow! Thanks for all the pointers. Much appreciated! Vegas was just a "stopping" point and then its off to Arizona and further East. Once my plans have been fully planned out, I'll definetly PM you. I'd love to see these roads you mentioned! Thanks again!

I would Valet the car. If have any problem with the car once you pick it up from Valet lets say 25 extra miles or something have the casino roll back the film and some one will be fired. I have done both Valet and the parking garage each casino has millions of cameras so the car is good to go.

I would valet the car for two reasons: 1 - maybe not in Vegas, but all the other hotels around California I valet in, half the time, they leave the car out front, sometimes even asking me to park it (no charge); 2 - if the valet does take it and park it, one of the pleasures of owning an NSX is seeing it come around the corner, pull up, then getting into it and taking off!

Give the valet guy $100 and tell him to park it in front. And then go inside and bet $1000 on a PaiGow table. If you win, then give $500 to the same valet guy and ask him guard the car overnight. If you lose, then go back out and sleep in in the car :)

Would I? probably not just because of the road condition.
