I was just told by my techs that my front upper and lower ball/socket joints have too much play and need replacing. My car is a 96 50k miles with about 800-1000 track miles/yr.This was discovered because I wanted a realignment as my pass side front tire was running 20 deg hotter outside.Has anyone else worn out thier front susp joints?

50k miles sounds very short, but there can be factors invloved such as quality of roads normally traveled, suspension mods making it stiffer, and possible the considerable track time athough that seems unlikely unless the track if very rough. Under "typical" conditions I would expect them to last twice as long and probably more.

Are you real comfortable with the integrity of your shop? I think the entire arm needs to be replaced so it's a big tab.

John,

Do you have it with Bernie at Davis?? I agree with Steve that this is premature, but... you have big brakes, stiff suspension, big wheels, so not out of the question.

Did you see it first hand? The main thing is there should be NO play at all, even the least play means they are toast.

Remember, change to brake lines

When you said ball and socket joints are they bearings. I need to replace mine. Since the bearings are expensive I guess I just replace the fronts first.

Thanx for the quick replies guys!I trust my local techs and although I hav'nt gotten to see first hand I'm sure if they say there is play then there is.I wonder how many track folk out there have similar problems and don't know it.I sure would like another shot at that time trial at msr last wk! I was pushing abit, lol.I'll update you tommorow.

I remember seeing a thread that talked about this - do you have the rock shields removed? This was touted as not only a rock shield, but a heat shield for the ball joints - it could have failed due to grease having vaporized due to excessive heat, especially while tracking

If the bushing boots are intact the grease will be there and I can not understand why you would have a problem. Get a second opin. Dan
