Anyone have problems with the MIL light coming on because of worn ignition coils? I've been told I have to replace them. They are around $120 each. Any experiences with this one?

I replaced my front ones unecessarily as the problem was I has th 02 sensors reversed when I installed headers. I have 3 good used ones if you'd like to try them before you order new ones. Also if your NSX is a '96...I believe the factory will replace them for free.

What MIL codes came up on your OBD 2 readings? Mine were 1201 -1206 which are engine misfires. Fuel is good, air temp a bit high. Plugs are brand new. The O2 sensor would trip a different code. I just wanna make sure we have the same potential solution. Let me know.

I had engine misfire codes like you. As I said, it turned out to be having 02 sensors reversed.

Did you take it to a shop for diagnosis or did someone just tell you to replace them due to the DTCs P1201-P1206?

Those DTCs could be caused by a number of things including, but not limited to faulty ignition coils, spark plugs, carbon deposits, fuel injectors clogging or an open in the ignition wire harness.

And those ignition coils retail for $103.90/each. You have a 99 NSX, right?

Check the Amperage of each coils to see if they are within spec. A lot of misfire when mine were bad so I replaced all of them because they were all out of spec. That was due to bad coil cover gasket. Also I had replaced 02 sensors and now waiting for fuel pump regulator. So far after replacing the coil packs no misfire and after replacing 02 sensors the smell of unburnt fuel become less.

O2 codes are different than misfire. The codes that came up were 1201-1206 and P0300. The plugs are brand new. My mechanic says testing the coils cold is not effective. The current flow and resistance of the coils are affected by temperature. It is a 1999. The fuel pressure and delivery system have not been tested but the freeze framed data from the OBD 2 indicates no malfunction. I hope the new coils will......knock on wood...... do the trick. I wrote a number of things down but he recommended the coil packs initially along with the spark plugs the first time I had the
MIL(F) light on.
