My driver's side windshield wiper skips over the windshield.... even in pouring rain! It's very annoying. I've tried a new wiper arm along with new blades with no success. The only thing that appears to work is if I applied Rain-X on the windshield. But asyou know, this stuff is temporary and wears off after a few days. Any suggestions?

Rain-X is not "temporary" and lasts for months! What happens, though, after you Rain-X the windshield and then start driving around, is that a film of dirt builds up on the windshield, and water can adhere to that dirt, not to the glass. If you wash the car, the effectiveness of the Rain-X is restored. It will keep working up to 2-3 months. However, bird droppings and insect splats will take away the Rain-X effectiveness and you will have to re-coat any such spots.

Jerry, here is what I do: First clean the windshield very good, Not just with soap and water, there are some specialty products that i've seen some recommend, I use Bon-Ami, it's a great cleaner and doesn't scratch the glass. It's been around for years and recommended by Pat Goss from Motorweek.

Once the windshield is completely clean, go ahead and use the rain-x. Go with Acura blades(you only need the buy the insert and not the whole wiper arm) and occasionally wipe the rubber down with an alcohol swab. This works great for me.
