Windshield Rubber Dams Needed or Not

Thinking about putting a new OEM windshield into the NSX but am not sure if the rubber dam A and rubber dam B (upper and lower) that the manual says to glue to the glass to prevent the urethane spreading is absolutely necessary. Doesnt' seem as though it would add to the structural integrity in any way.

Anybody had experience with or without that can shed some light on this before I start ordering parts?

Not many bits on the NSX that don't serve a purpose. With the price of an OEM windshield I can't see NOT spending another 10% on the A and B dams.

It is a standard part on almost all Honda windshield installs, still, $80 for what is essentially some foam weatherstripping is a lot if its only purpose is to contain the urethane during install. The quick set adhesives guys like Safelite use these days are really thick so I don't think thats a concern anymore. Just wondered if someone knew for a fact if it helps in some other way, like establishing the set height or preventing outgassing of the urethane into the cabin over time.

As I suspected upon close examination after removal I can safely say the dam is not required. Its soft porous foam like you can buy at Home Depot for a door seal. I believe that its an artifact of the factory installation procedure to hold the older softer urethane in place during install. Not necessary today.
