Got hit by a rock today and have windshield crack about the size of a quarter. Is this repairable? I would think not, but I seem to remember reading that it is. If it is, who does this sort of thing?

Anyone know off hand before I start making calls if auto insurance companies cover this sort of damage?

Oh, I was driving with the top off and I also got hit in the forehead by more gravel. Aside from that, it actually was an enjoyable day...

[hmm, with all those wide tires in front of me, no wonder I got covered in gravel.]

I've never had a problem replacing my windshield through insurance due to a ding since I can remember. If I recall there is an additional coverage type you can get for exactly this type of thing. Living in Arizona I definitely took advantage of it many times

If I recall, I replaced my NSX winshield twice in 3 years, and my Land Crusier windshield twice in roughly the same amount of time - and insurance covered it all.

Find out what kind of coverage you have and I'll bet you get full coverage for windshield damage from the road.

Good luck!

It's probably repairable. Read the information about windshield repair on the Novus website here. My Novus guy has repaired several cracks and chips for me. Just make sure you repair it before it gets worse and becomes unrepairable.

Rocks....errrrr.

There should be a law requiring the party that drops rocks pay for ALL damage (paint etc.) that occurs. There is sorta, but you have to see the rock fall from the vehicle and then it is your word against theirs.

There also should be laws that requires covering, securing loads to prevent them from falling in the first place.

This subject gets me angry.

Who/what/where is everyone using as a source for replacement windshield wipers?

The dealer. All you need to replace is a rubber insert in the windshield wipers (part number 76622-SR3-305) and it lists for $7.48. There's no need to replace the entire wiper arm.

Is Novus able to fill in small surface nics?

Yes.

If the crack is in your line of site, the insurance will require a new windshield. I have had a "fix" before on a small crack and was pleased with the results. I could still see it, but I don't think anyone else could.

If it were me, I would replace the windshield (using OEM parts).

Good luck

Hi Tim,
It looks like you attended the Exotic Car Rally to Roaring Camp in Santa Cruz sponsored by FerrariChat last weekend. I hope you had a great time. Ben, Larry, and gang are cool, aren't they? It's too bad I wasn't available for it, because it sounds like a great time. Perhaps next time. Who else in the NSX group attended?

Take care :-)

It was a lot of fun. Had around 40 cars or so. 5 NSX's, each a different color

Sadly I didn't have time to wash my car, so you barely tell what color it was under all the brake dust

Here are some pictures from the event. I just sent Ben all of my photos and they should be added to the site in a day or two, so check back.

PS: The rocks weren't dropped from a vehicle in front of me. They were sucked up from the road surface by high-downforce wide-tired cars
