What a true shame. Regardless of how much money this Jack a** has, he has no right to endanger other people by driving drunk.

Jack Whittaker, 57, was arrested Tuesday night after his Hummer struck a concrete median on the West Virginia Turnpike near Beckley.

Senior Trooper M.J. Pinardo reported that he smelled alcohol, but Whittaker refused sobriety tests and was "extremely belligerent." Troopers also said they found a small pistol in Whittaker's boot and he was carrying $117,000 in cash.

I'm sure that's the new excuse drug runners could use "i have a pistol in my boot along with $100K cash because i won the lottery"

Why did the Newspaper mention the 18yr old found dead in his home if he's not a suspect and it wasn't a crime?

Sounds like good old fashioned "WHITE TRASH" I went to West Virginia University in Morgantown and stories like this were everywhere. I remember when a law was passed that "allowed people to bring home road kill"!!

Too much money and not enough brains.
I'll say. Quite aside from the DUI - which is does endanger others - all you have to do is look at these two statements from the article:

"Whittaker's vehicle, business and home have allegedly been broken into multiple times."

"he was carrying $117,000 in cash."

How stupid can you be?

That is the problem with the lotto, only people who have no sense win it.

Yah, but this dumb-a$$ was a multi-mulit-millionare before he won this lottery. This is just a stupid white-trash red-neck, that may have worked hard at one time to earn his first millions; but is now too rich, old, bored, and showing his true nature. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he ends up killing himself in some stupid manner real soon. Sounds like he almost accomplished that feat with this story.

I resent that comment. ONe of my employees hit the mega million jackpot worth 18 mil this past saturday and he is full of brains and really lucky. He actually deserves it concidering the bad things that has happend to him this past year with his father. To add to your comment I take it I hire no nonsense characters?

Now to rephrase your post "That is the problem with lotto, most elderly folks win it"

Steve, If you reverse engineer that statement, you come up with 'only people with no sense play it'.

...and originally I did word the statement more directly but I revised it before I posted in hopes of not offending anyone.
So if I must speak my mind...I do think only people with no sense play the lotto. You have a better chance of getting struck by lightning twice. You have to be a nincompoop to really think you have a chance of winning squat. Now to confess I have played the lottery in the past, present, and I bet the future. Why? Because my father won $900,000 playing the lotto, and there is my proof of the above statement.

Here is what I know about who wins the lotto.

Local guy here in my town wins 7 million in the lotto. He was drunk his whole life who lived above a bar in a rooming house. He never held a steady job and collected state aid. After he won he bought a used Lincoln and paid people to drive him around, he never had a drivers license. Less than a year after winning he died of liver failure. He should have been forced to pay back every single dollar that welfare gave him with interest. Better yet he should have not even been able to buy a lotto ticket with welfare money in the first damn place.

There was a mega million jackpot winner this year, in which state I forget, he won in the tens of millions. He and his family were on the verge of bankruptcy they were over 400k in debt, mostly on credit cards. They were getting their house foreclosed on in a week from when he won. Can someone PLEASE tell me WTF is someone thinking, who is that far in debt, when they buy a lotto ticket. Why aren't they paying their debt down with the money? Because they chronically make bad choices.

Of course there is the fellow who won in wVA who was already a millionaire. Like he really needed any more money.

hmm...methinks if I one the biggest lottery in US history I'd be paying somebody to drive my drunken ass around...

Boggles my mind when I the rich and famous getting caught for driving themselves around while drunk. Especially movie stars. You have to be nuts to be rich and famous and do something wrong. The rich and famous are finding themselves "trophies" for law enforcement. If the guy who won the Lotto had crashed his SUV without winning the lotto we would have never heard about it.

Gil,
For what it's worth I couldn't agree more. Steveny your comment was completely uncalled for and insensitive. I think people that win the lottery are the BEST people in the world and it is obvious their good fortune is not only because of their good sense and luck but because some higher power must recognize this and sends this gift their way for a reason. Most likely it is to help people and to experience how wonderful it is to SHARE good fortune.

Please make sure your employee reads this and knows how wonderful I think he is. He is smart, and deserves his good fortune and his boss is a great person too, absolutely one of the best and I want the world to know I'm willing to say so over and over again.
I can't say much about myself but I have always been able to spot good people and have never been one to look a gift horse in the mouth or hurt anyones feelings by refusing their generosity. You know, giving, sharing just makes you feel good and if he REALLY wants to feel great and make a swell new friend at the same time let me know. Did I say how great you and your employee are cause' you guys are the best.......... Really.
The only real way to turn folks like steveny around is to teach them a lesson.
Maybe a nice big check sent his way would make him feel different and cure him of making such silly observations.
Before you go to doing that just remember, friends first.
Gosh, I feel like I have known you and your employee forever.
Your friend,
Joe.

glass houses or get stoned in a house?!? lol

hmmm... I can assume that no one on this forum, particularly this thread has ever driven an automobile on a public road after consuming a certain quantity of alcohol that would raise their blood-alcohol level above the 0.075 - 0.080 level that is a statutory limit to be considered "drunk" or under the influence? *interesting*

Let's leave the judging to the judge.

OK, who forgot the radar detector!!!!
FYI... Most of us had radar detectors. The police never clocked us with radar (that part of the article was not true) and did know how fast we were going. (It's unwise to object to a cited speed as a gross inaccuracy by stating that the true speed was considerably faster. Keep in mind that the terrain and weather created virtually unlimited visibility of the road ahead.)

The reason the police set up the (unmentioned) roadblock to stop us (and all other traffic) is that some of the drivers we passed earlier had called them on their cell phones.

I haven't. And I believe that anyone who has, deserves to be cited for doing so. Just as we did, for speeding.

Speaking for myself, I never have, and never ever will.
It's ok to put yourself at risk, but to endanger the lives of others so irresponsibly is just stupid.

I drink a beer a month, maybe, at most. I have a beer I bought 4 months ago that sits un-opened in my fridge.

I also don't smoke, try to eat mostly healthy food, and try to drive vehicles that are low polluters and good on gas.

I guess you can call me a geek who is also an environmentalist and cares about the safety of others.

It makes me sad to see those MADD commercials about people who have been killed so needlessly by drunk drivers.

So I'm going to judge those who drive drunk. It shouldn't ever happen, and if someone gets killed over driving drunk, I pray it's just the drunk driver...

Amen. I think drunk driving causes terrible emotional trauma, not to mention the financial damage it causes in the transportation system, the healthcare system, and in the families affected.

Drunk driving really should be a severely punishable offense.

I suppose I should mention that I rarely drink, too. However, I don't criticize those who choose to drink (or eat unhealthy foods, etc), only those who drink enough to be legally intoxicated (I think it takes 3-4 drinks in under an hour for an average size adult male, which is quite a bit, I think) and then get in a car and drive.

If you want to go out and drink, fine. I'll be happy to be your designated driver and give you a ride home afterwards. ;)
