Why do a lot of NSX's end up...

I frequent used car auctions often and don’t see them much, but that’s in NY.

About a year ago I saw a NSX in the Mannheim PA exotic car auction it was in horrible condition it was 91 or 92 black/red with black interior.

I see NSXs on used car lots here in Sarasota from time to time. 4 that I can remember in the last couple years. 1 was at the Acura dealer, 1 was at the Jaguar dealer, 2 were on independent lots.

If you check out www.cars.com or www.autotrader.com a good number of the NSX's on these sites are for sale on used car lots, asking ridiculously high prices.

The car is only worth what people are willing to pay. So what do you care? Are you in the market for one? Where/how did you concluded the high selling price?

Yes I am in the market to buy one, I have my pre approved financing all in order. I hope to own an NSX prior to NSXPO in October so I can enjoy in the fun as an owner rather than as a soon to be owner. I base my statement of ridiculous pricing on a couple of things I have been observing over the last month.

When I see a car advertised on the web sites I mentioned in my last post, the used car lots that are selling much higher than a one owner or two owner car in the same year and less mileage by a private seller.

While looking at www.autotader.com to the right of the listings, it shows which used car lot is selling the car. Take a look, you will see what I am referring to.

I am wanting to purchase a 2002 to 2005 Red, with black interior. I don't particularly care for all the mods some cars have on them so basically a stock NSX would suit me very nicely. I will purchase one mod, right off the bat, and that would be the B&B tri flow muffler from the cat to the tail pipe as I test drove a 98 NSX with this muffler configuration and it sounded very nice, compared to a stock 01, I have test driven.

I look forward to becoming an NSX owner and a positive contributor to this forum.

Good luck in your search and I hope you find what you want. With those criteria you are looking in a very small pool of cars. Very small. But good luck in any event. Keep us posted.

I hope that you never have to buy an NSX from a car lot...lol...there are enough great cars for sale on this site...trust in a person that has and does love the NSX!! A few have bought from a dealership...but most of the cars are newer models with low miles...the higher mileaged vehicle is better purchased from a private seller...especially one that has taken good care of the car...as for the number of NSX's at car lots...lol...how many Corvettes, Porches and Ferraris end up at dealerships...lol...in Calgary alone I have seen 4 Ferraris and 80 Corvettes and all but 1 NSX...lol...these babies are rare!!!

Well I'm in the market for one and it is hard because even though I want to get one it's hard to get financing for a car that is sometimes over 10k the value the companies have on record. It's hard to tell a company that "well this guy has an '02 update and an exhaust so that's why it costs way more than what you say it's worth". Believe me it makes it hard to buy! Find me a bank that's going to give a good APR on a car that's 15 years old and 10-15k more than the suggested value? That is what some NSX sellers are wanting. Don't get me wrong, there are people that will give a good deal.

Good luck finding NSX's at a price that say, KBB or NADA says it worth. Not what NSX owners say it's worth. I'm willing to spend a few more grand than KBB or NADA has on them but not 10k. Even with some mods that's just asking too much. (excluding SC'ed or TB'ed cars or show cars)

What model years are you in the market for? If you look into the market deep enough, a excellent 1991 car is not that much cheaper than a 1997.

So it has to make sense which one you're after.

In my experience, used car lots and dealerships ALWAYS ask more for a car than a private party.

I don't think this is anything new. Slap an offer in their face and you may get what you want.

When a client brings back an NSX thats been on lease... and it looks real ratty it goes to the auction block.. other wise it usually gets re-sold on the dealers own floor.

Find one that suits you and jump in.
Just remember, where you start and where you end up are going to be 2 different places.
It's a love affair that will never end
I think you'll be better off finding one from a private party and from someone who appreciates the car, not from a dealer trying to turn a buck.
