My once flawless NSX has 1 ding, multiple chips from road debris, numerous scratches, and zero dents. But it still looks brand new from 10 feet away. Anyone else?

I have met a few girls like that "Good from far but far from good!"

My car also has the few rock chips, I have found that unless you never drive your car it is impossible to keep it perfect. I put about 10K miles on my NSX per year so if it gets a couple of rock chips I live with it.

No dings on my car yet, a few light scratches on the hood (didn't break the top coat, can probably be buffed out), and a "hail" storm of hood chips.

My car has 85K miles and I put about 15K a year... I don't think the hood chips can be avoided either. I've considered repainting the hood, but its just going to be a mess again after a while with the number of miles I put on the car.

That's the thing about a nice, white car. You can have some chips and minor imperfections, but it still looks extra clean.

"Whose", not "Who's".

Whose = belongs to whom ("Whose NSX is this?")
Who's = who is ("Who's going to NSXPO 2002?")

On my '91, I have no dings; I recently got one from a rock and had a paintless dent repair expert take care of it. Nine years ago I had an encounter with road debris that dented my hood and shattered a headlight cover, but I had them repaired properly, and it's virtually impossible for anyone other than a body shop pro to notice. I don't have any visible scratches, but I have maybe half a dozen chips here and there that I have used touch-up paint on. My car's front end is consistent with its 51K miles, meaning that if you look really, really close you will see "road rash" - tiny, tiny chips all over the front end, particularly the front air dam and bumper, but some on the hood as well, too tiny to touch up but visible if you look really, really close. I could eliminate this by having the front clip repainted for ~$3K, but, like the others posting here, I have concluded that the process would simply start all over again at that point.

My car is garaged at all times, and I keep a good coat of Zymol wax on it at all times as well. It still looks brand new from ten feet away.

I think it was Mae West who said, "Good girls go to heaven. Bad girls go anywhere they want."

The person who just drove one off the lot. It's nearly impossible to keep a car flawless. What is important is that the condition is commensurate with the age of the vehicle. My 1991 model looks like a 12 year old car with 40k miles should. No dents/dings, but certaintly some paint imperfections from rocks, etc. This, to me, is better than a car that has been poorly repainted (as often happens).

My NSX got dinged shortly after I bought her in Y2K, but forum member ANYTIME removed it just a few months ago.

Unfortunately I do have quite a few rock chips (which is why I picked up a nose mask). Its amazing how I never paid attention to such things before having the NSX, yet now I treat each and every tiny little mark as if its a huge disaster.

I guess that's the downside of owning a work of automotive art.

I keep one in the trunk, the other in the basement.

I wouldn't want anyone to accuse me of having a car that looks stock.

Think of the rock chips etc. as 'beauty marks' or the natural aging process. Race cars have many and look the better for it. A 'garage queen' shows no such character but is rotting away from within from a lack of use. Your choice.

Unless you put 0 miles on it and keep it well-polished/waxed and garaged, it's virtually impossible. For a while, it pained me to think that everytime I take my little baby out for a drive, I'm GOING to get CHIPS, no matter what I do !! I've come to terms with myself that such is the inevitability of owning such an expensive/exotic and fast car. Like all machinery, use it, or lose it. So, like what Michael said, it's your call.

Mine was flawless when I first got it, and it has been a downhill slide since then. I bought my 95 in 98 with 8232 miles on it. The poor garage queen was driven only on sunny days an average of less than 3k miles per year by the previous owner. I now have 64k miles and many track events on it, with every imaginable mod. The car is currently at BAS getting a complete engine rebuild with massive massaging by His Boostness.

In *my* opinion, my car is still flawless, except for very minor debris marks on the nose, which is to be expected with such cars.

blk 91, just turned 20k. far from flawless--but im ok with that.

i havent screwed up the chin spoiler... yet.

few small rock chips. no dings.

little abrasion on rear bumper which can be buffed out.

no scratches, just some very fine swirl marks---again should be able to get out.

rims are fine.

interior looks brand new.

all in all, just the usual road rash.

by the way, ive heard many people say that bras are a bad idea as they cause abrasions over time??? or maybe that was a leftover mantra from the 60's

I have 3,800 miles on it since Feb 02.

no scratches, no dents, no chips. I don't follow close and I watch where I park.

The black chin spoiler has some minor scrapes, and it must scrape so easily that I don't even know how I did it.

Interior is flawless.

I keep it waxed (zaino'd) and apply leather and vinyl conditioner 4 times a year.

This is the recipe that kept my 928S4 looking new after 8 years and 50K miles, and my two new RX7's before it at 60K miles each.

I have to say that my NSX is better than when my wife and I drove it home NEW from FT Lauderdale 15 months ago. With 60+ coats of Zaino, and NO dings, dents, chips it is as close to flawless as I think you can find. Never rained on. Baby driven. Rarely kick in the VTEC.

I have had it for sale for about 3 months with lots of calls and emails, but no one has come to look at it. Once that happens, I will be looking to buy that boat I have my eyes on.

I agree that Flawless = unloved

My car is a '97 with over 80K miles on it! I've driven it over 15,000 miles myself in the last year. The previous owner put 14K miles on it in his year of ownership, and the original lease lasted a (I'm sure pleasant) 55,000 miles.

I'm sure that we all love these car. But they're made to be driven. It puts a smile on my face every time I go out to Home Depot or to the grocery store! I enjoy running errands in it as much as I enjoy road trips through the Texas Hill Country.

I think a properly maintained car only builds character with a little road rash on the nose and behind the rear wheels. Though my car had it's nose, fenders, hood re-painted when I took delivery, it already has new nose chips and a couple of dings on the hood. I don't enjoy finding new dings on it when I wash and Zaino it (weekly), but it's definitely worth all the smiles in-between!
