Is it me or does the next generation Corvette share some distinct lines with the 02/03 NSX? Down the sides and at the lights.
Imagine a wings west lower side valence.
The lower bumper reminds me of the 360 modena. I hope this hasn't been covered.

I'm glad they're figuring out that the Corvette doesn't necessarily have to LOOK like it came from Detroit. If they're taking cues from the NSX & 360, well, they're not as dumb as I thought they were!

Only in the first few years of production.
50's. Don't know exactly what years.
Not a big vette fan.

The C6 Vette should be pretty interesting.

The interior is going to get a major revamp. Think Audi-levels of quality and design.

The new base engine should be in the range of 425 hp. The eventual Z06 will have 500 hp to match the Ford GT and Viper.

They're supposedly going knock some weight out too. Perhaps 100-200 lbs. A design with more "european" sensibilities. Shorter overhangs, exposed headlights, much improved fit and finish, etc...

Should be interesting to see...

1953 to 1962 all had headlights. 1963 was the first year for hidden.
Did a search on corvette history. pages and pages.....

lens3.8, I agree the front scoops look awfully similar to the Modena's. I do wish they would change that rear though -- getting tired of those big round lights. How closely do these photographs resemble the planned production version of the C6??

Regards.

You mean, unlike the C5 Corvette that was introduced for 1997?

They said that about the C5.. that it would have a much nicer interior.. it didnt. It is cheap!

We'll see what happens this time.

Yeah, I'd be skeptical about the switchgear as well.

If I had to guess, I would guess more evolutionary changes for the C6 than revolutionary. The C5 has continued to be a massive sales and image success, so there isn't a lot of incentive to totally reinvent it.

I'm thinking fixed lights, 400+ hp for the base model, and an updated appearance will probably round out the changes.

There might be some weight savings, but I'd be surprised if the overall footprint and silhouette of the car changed radically.

I'm thinking perhaps Audi TT like design that Nissan emulated on the 350Z. Y'know, a lot of plastic to keep costs down, accentuated with brushed metal trim to make it "look" more expensive.

a little off topic...
the latest styling on the vette has blatant influences from the nsx. when it first came out, that was what people were chatting about at the chicago autoshow. granted, it was one of the talks of the show, and in my opinion was one of the most memorable cars there, but i have to give credit to the nsx for setting the stage. the irony is that the nsx still out classes it by far and the design is over a decade old. just my opinion.

No, that is an educated guess from Motor Trend I believe.

However, they were pretty much dead accurate with the 97 vette.

So basically we agree that the 'vette is a cheap knock off the NSX with a more powerfull (yet not necessarily reliable) engine. Despite this, the 'vette is an excellent handling sports car with great potentiol for power. I would love to see the C5S compete in JGTC.

It is obvious that the vette is cheaper, but I don't think that it is a knockoff of the NSX. It is a completely different car, engineered completely differently that happens to somewhat resemble the NSX in an artists prediction. The dynamics of the vehicle were created and will continue to be created to meet different goals in mind than that of the NSX and targeting a different demographic.

I had a C5 and liked it at the time, but it is not in the same league as the NSX. It is surprisingly reliable for a Chevy, but I outgrew the vette and wanted something that fullfilled more needs than straight line acceleration. It has some advantages over the NSX (cost, torque), but not that many and considering what the NSX brings to the table and with a 12 year old design, it was a no brainer. You want an accurate comparison, take out a 91 vette and see what you get. That thing will shake and rattle worse than garbage truck on a dirt road. The newer vettes have come a long way, but you see 30 vettes a day on the road. I have seen only 2 other NSX's since I have owned it. If raw power is important, then buy a vette, viper, or tweeked out mustang. I myself want a total package that the vettes or mustangs can't provide. Sorry for the soapbox.

I just spent a fair amount of time in a 2003 Z06.

While I like my 1992 NSX better I have to say that I didn't find the interior objectionable. For a car that's a lot less expensive than a new NSX, it was pretty decent.

I'm sure there could be improvements and changes - and the 2005 C6 will have those - but it was an impressive car.

As far as being in the "same league" as the NSX, well, when it comes to raw performance the Z06 is indeed in the same league, in fact, a notch above. When it comes to fit, finish, elegance, etc, I would agree that it's not in the same league. I suppose it's like the difference one would find between a Chevy Cavalier and a Honda Civic.

They copied the NSX back then and were successful why not do it again. Seems like a good way to save money.

What really irks me is when some "extremely smart" people say the NSX stole its styling from the Corvette.

There's no indication that Chevy copied the NSX with the C5. Other than being a 2-seater sports car with hidden headlights, the two cars are completely different.

If you read the design history in "All Corvettes Are Red" there were different design influences.
