I was reading a recent post about the best ways to prolong the life of your clutch which has alot of good advice. I got to wondering if there are any high mileage clutches out there.

I know the type of driving (city, highway, etc) will have a big influence on how long the clutch will last.

My old 91' civic had 10 years 195,000 miles when I gave it to my mother and still had the original clutch. BUT i'm sure an nsx clutch has a more aggressive material than a civic's clutch.

So who has the highest mileage clutch out there???

I'm not one for the record books but my '91 with 12 track events and 46K miles still has the original clutch. My NSX tech recently did an alignment on my car and when he drove it, he said it was the oldest NSX with the original clutch that he's driven. He did a quick test and there's no slippage yet. I match revs to road speed all the time and have my launch technique down pat. Said the way I drive, it should last quite a long time. It all boils down to driving technique. I've heard of some NSX original clutches being toast at just barely 10K miles with others going as far as 100K.

hlweyl,

How about starting a poll to gauge clutch lifetimes, with polling choices such as 0-10K miles, 10k-20k,...,100k+ ? That may produce some interesting results. I suppose there are variables such as count of track days and clutch brand, but it would be interesting nonetheless.

If you do start a poll, be careful to distinguish between how many miles on a clutch that was actually replaced, vs how many miles on a current clutch. If someone has XX,000 miles on the clutch that's in his car, it could last another YY,000 miles for all we know; saying how many miles so far doesn't really mean anything. OTOH if someone had a such-and-such clutch and had to replace/rebuild it after ZZ,000 miles, that's much more useful information.

Hope that makes sense...

My 92 nsx has the orignal clutch. I have72,400 miles to date. I recommend to everyone to bleed the clutch system ,you would be surprised the difference it makes when you shift into 1st gear. I was amazed how dirty the fluid was. see everyone at nsxp..
