Who can record high quality in car engine audio for a (free) race simulator addon?

Hi all,

A popular racing simulator for Windows computers is rFactor. It is a bit old but after buying the game you can download loads of cars and circuits and drive them. You can have years of fun with this game (well, simulator).. I make cars for this game (well.. simulator! :)) actually, I only do the physics, a friend makes the 3d models.

We're doing a first gen NSX because it is an awesome car and it will look and drive pretty good! However the sounds are a problem. It will be a free download to anyone who owns the rFactor game, hopefully before the end of the year.

For in game sounds you need a good recording of the engine how it sounds from inside the car most importantly. GoPro cameras are great but their audio is pretty poor. Another problem with videos is the car is always accelerating and ideally we need constant RPM samples as the game will pitch them according to the revs the engine does. Also many guys have the window open on track days so you hear more wind noise than engine noise! :)

Is there perhaps someone with a NSX and somewhat decent recording equipment (iPhone or GoPro won't work), who is willing to help us out?

This is a preview video of some driving at Suzuka:

This is some mad oversteer driving at Goldenport:

It would be great if we can capture the sound in high fidelity as well!

Regards,
Niels

Niels,

It's an honor that you pick the NSX to be in your new game.
With that said, i can come up with something as my new exhaust is near final stages of testing & sounds awesome!
I will be using my Roland Edirol 24bit 48k recording gear, should be very good quality.
Can you PM me with details of exactly what all/type of driving conditions you need?

Look up Oscar on here he did a video with camera in the engine bay.

Hi Nukem, I found this http://www.nsxprime.com/forum/showt...ine-bay-under-the-hatch-glass?highlight=video which is both awesome and not so good, but with a good microphone and decent equipment that seems to be a great location to record the amazing sound.

Ryu, well ideally stock or close to stock, but much rather a great recording of a modified car than a poor recording of a stock version.. :) In my experience getting audio for the game you can't be too picky as most people have (some) mods on their vehicle..

I'm glad to report Timeless1 is still eager to try and record his NSX concert at some point.

In the meantime I've already created something that is NOT a NSX sound (its a straight 6) but you can at least appreciate the dynamic nature of the sound. Sure it is only a game but when you floor it, things go loud and smiles appear! :)

Here is a video of the pedal action while driving. The simulator can be setup so that you have to clutch or rev match otherwise it will refuse shifts. Featuring my pedals and the old not so good sounds:

Just a quick note, the car is available for download. All you need is the rFactor game, and ideally a decent set of pedals and a force feedback wheel. As most of you own a NSX for real it may not be that interesting but you can do things to it in a virtual environment that you probably wouldn't do in real life.. :)

Video here and download links in the video description.
