White stuff in air cleaner

Hi,
I am a new (96) NSX owner. I am doing some routine maintainence and checked the air cleaner. The filter is dirty and needs replacing but when I removed it I found a fine white powder coating the inside of the ribbed tube that connects the air cleaner to the air intake. The powder extends into the housing up to the butterfly. Any ideas what causes this? It almost looks like the white coating you get inside an exhaust when the engine is running to lean.
Thanks!
Nick

Release agent from the mold seems to be the most popular explanation, its normal.

Use the search... It has been discussed in length before...

It's also possible this got sucked into your intake.
